Help me!

I have friends who've started a new web site, and they need traffic to survive. I don't know if the SEO tricks I used to know from 15 years ago, still work anymore. Do web sites still use link exchanges with similar web sites, and applicable keywords in their metatags and content to get new traffic, or is that a thing of the past? I wonder if people were writing relationship type articles for them, if that could also help somehow? I would do that if they asked for my help in such a way! ;-)

Can anyone HELP my friends to make it work?

I already wrote 2 replies that didn't post for some reason - I've never posted here before. Anyway - here goes again. (it won't even let me log in now)
I recently wrote SEO content for a HVAC company. I don't know what the rules of the game were 15 years ago. But I did a quick search and after skimming this article - it could be helpful to your friends.
(okay - won't let me post the link)

So, I'm interested, can you post their site here??

Meta tags, keywords, and backlinks still exist, but they don't have nearly the impact they once had. They've been replaced with "smart" algorithms that look at activity such as how many new users enter, how many stick around, how long normal users stay on pages and the site and such.

Users posting content and such will help significantly, especially content that can picked up by the Google engines and shown to searchers. ๐Ÿ˜Š

Before you've got a verified account, you won't be able to post links in posts or replies- as a spam prevention tool.
