I would think the answer to that question would depend on the context.

Well, to be socratic about it, why does anyone get disrespected? Is there usually a good reason for it?

We should all just be nice to eachother and respect eachother. Some people aren't nice and don't follow that rule.

Sometimes it is a matter of retalation, one token of disrepsect in exchange for another.

Or who knows. Life is complex and infinitely varied. There isn't always a specific that can apply in all situations.

Yes. But nice people are easy targets. Once they take a stand its too much of a shock and it baffles the abuser.
My take. Its better to be an ase wipe than a nice guy because nice guys finish last

I had lots of thoughts like that growing up and i have learned a lesson that goes like this: I'd rather be nice and like myself than be mean and end up not liking who i am. Liking who you are is something you will wind up caring a bit more about as you get older.

You might win an argument in the moment by being mean but you'll feel like dirt afterward. At least that is how it always worked for me. Not everyone would agree with me
