Paying Google for the Ads? I'm actually not sure. I'm pretty sure it's some sort of flat fee, and then a cost-per-click, but I've never done any digging into the actual prices. I imagine it differs. Premium ads (top of pages) probably cost more than bottom ads, plus depending on the keyword. (I imagine the "help" keyword costs quite a bit more than "vacuum cleaner", for example.)

The best way to show up on that page is for new users to type in Help, then somehow find our page. Google will draw the lines and move us up the list.

I think they even take multiple searches into account. So if somebody searches "help", scrolls a few pages, then "help me", scrolls a few pages, then some other query, then eventually lands on our page, Google sees that and gives us points in each of those word searches.... I think. Google keeps a lot of the interworking of their search engine quiet so that people can't abuse the system. So the only "fair" way to do it is continue doing what we're doing.

We canโ€™t pay to get higher on the list, no. Thatโ€™s all done automatically from SEO/usage.

We CAN pay to have ads done with specific keywords. For example, if we pay google for an ad on the โ€œhelp meโ€ phrase, if somebody searches for โ€œhelp meโ€, we may appear at the top (or bottom) of the search results page, but in a different section, and weโ€™d appear in a box that says โ€œADโ€ on it, instead of showing up with the rest of the results.

Something like "help" is hard to get up the list in because it's a very very specific keyword that also has a very general meaning. Just about every site has a "help" page, so it's hard to get recognized as more important than those.

Being found in Google MOSTLY takes time. With very specific searches. Weโ€™re already starting to move up the list. More general searches are a little more difficult to get to, but again- come with time and users.

Ads are a possibility, but arenโ€™t generally worth it unless you have a steady stream of money coming in the door. If we displayed some ads, that could be a potential possibility. Iโ€™ve thought about doing similar ones to what used to be displayed- very unobtrusive and out of the way. No sounds or flashing colors or pop ups or anything of the sort, but most people seem pretty against any ads of any sort. So ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™‚๏ธ

Iโ€™ve got a few keywords set up, but those donโ€™t do much these days. So paying for ads is the fastest way to jump up the list for specific key words/phrases like that. I like the idea of just spreading by word of mouth for now, and we can look into ads again in the future, if we feel it would be worth it. :)

Very true.
I know most trolls usually have problems, but unfortunately just because they need help doesn't mean they can be allowed to run around and harm others - even if that helps them. ๐Ÿ˜ž

There has been a couple posts already for brain storming ideas on getting some more traffic, but there is simply not much that we can do, outside of posting the url on other websites where people might be asking for help. (Which must be done carefully in order to adhere to their TOS)
