The old firing pin had the nasty habit of breaking and protruding through the firing pin hole in the bolt. Then, when the bolt would chamber the next round, the protruding firing pin would fire the chambered cartridge before the locking lugs could engage--blowing up the rifle. There was a number to call: 1-800-852-5734 at Winchester. You will be directed to Nu-Line guns. You will have to send in the old firing pin to get the new one, as I recall, anyway. You'd also get a check for something like $30 to have a gunsmith install the new firing pin. I did it myself and kept the $30--but I had to spend it on Scotch to get the rifle apart and back together. But get that firing pin replaced--there were scores of Model 100s that blew up. You'll need the rifle's serial number when you call. Winchester knows if a rifle has had the firing pin replaced or not. I will say this: the 100 is the most difficult firearm to disassemble and reassemble--that I've ever experienced!

A Supergrade! Very nice! I am restocking my Winchester Model 70 Safari Express--ordered a new factory stock from Gunpartscorp.com. Got it for 1/3 for what they were asking for the stove wood on eBay. I love the 7mm Mauser. I have one in a Brazilian Mauser Model 1908. I am also restoring a Peruvian Mauser that was rebarreled by that country to .30/06. Good shooting with your Model 70! What caliber is your 100? Mine is .308. Always wanted a .284!

If you go to gunpartscorp.com, you can find magazines made for your 100 that were made on the original Winchester tooling, but actually made stronger and better than the originals. I got a gunsmith to get the kinks out of mine, such as doubling and the hammer falling as the bolt locked into battery. Mine is a pre-64 100 also. Nu-Line guns also has parts like extractors, bolts, etc. I had to put a new extractor in mine. Did you get the original firing pin replaced under the recall program? I got one from Nu-Line and replaced it myself. Yeah, I got mine apart and together several times, and you need a full bottle of Scotch. I plan on refinishing the stock over Christmas and putting on a brand new butt plate. The bluing's perfect!
