Ok.

What would you all do? Would you take the position? I’ve been at my job for a little over a year. My manager back in the fall asked me if I would be interested in the Assistant Manager position. I was going to apply for it because she said I would have to be reinterviewed by her and HR. Well, I had a couple of family issues that arose and I had to go out of town. At the time because of everything that was going on, I decided to back out. I just felt like they needed to hire someone who could be there more than I could. I was going to go from part time to full time and with everything that happened, I just didn’t think I could. I lost two uncles within the span of two months. So fast forward a few months later. There is a Supervisor position that has opened up. My manager asked me about two weeks ago if I would be interested and she told me to think about it. Well, I noticed that she has had a few interviews with some older people and I had assumed that maybe she was going to go with one of them because she even asked the one man when he would be available to start. So, I thought that the position was taken. Last week she called me in her office and told me that she wants me to be her supervisor and she’s giving me until next week to give her an answer. I was a little confused because I thought she had hired someone else. And I even asked her that I thought she did and she said she wants to hire internally and she wants me to do it. I have been seriously thinking about it and it makes me nervous. I mean I think I can handle it and obviously she does. But there are a few things that are kinda holding me back. Like I keep telling myself that idk if I am good in a leadership position...especially here. And also, I’m not a confrontational person. So if something comes up with a customer, I don’t know if I am the right person to deal with it. Like I don’t like dealing with upset or rude people. I’m kinda quiet and shy. So, I don’t know if this is the right job for me. She thinks I can do it but I feel like I’m my own worst enemy right now. What would you do?

i was in something similar to this .. not exactly a promotion thing, but trying to understand managers and why they can be a pain in the ***ass sometimes.

i went ahead and looked into some research about their roles.. yes .. leadership is the job. confrontation or what they like to call " addressing issues of the matter " is one another aspect to the position. managers .. deal with employees..

if you're prepared to handle that, go for it. if not... dont bother.. but all in all u dont know till you try. it'll be a learning process.. dont try to figure everything out - talk to the boss/ or other managers with experience on how to handle situations.

best of luck with that.
