- March 2012 - Putin wins the 2012 Russian presidential election (his third term)

- Spring 2013 - Putin issues executive order to launch government-funded Internet Research Agency (IRA) with stated objective to "conduct demographic research, content analysis and other data-driven social science research".

- December 2013 - Putin issues executive order to fund a government-owned news agency called Rossiya Segodnya. According to the Decree of the President of Russia, the mandate of the new agency is to "provide information on Russian state policy and Russian life and society for audiences abroad."

- April 2014 - IRA begans organized online propaganda campaign to shift public opinion in the Western world on behalf of Russian political interests. IRA agents are instructed to maintain multiple Facebook, Twitter and Instagram accounts in addition to accounts on YouTube and news sites such as Yahoo News, Huffington Post, Fox News, The Blaze, Politico, and WorldNetDaily. They are instructed to seek out polarizing content with strong emotional appeal in news articles, comment sections, videos, tweets and posts. They are instructed to retweet, repost, like and share this content relentlessly.

- December 2014 - IRA uses Twitter to spread a hoax about an Ebola outbreak in Atlanta. The hoax includes a YouTube video of medical workers wearing hazmat suits. IRA spreads a hoax about a purported police shooting of an unarmed black woman in Atlanta.

- November 2015 - IRA Instagram account "Stand For Freedom" attempts to organize a confederate rally in Houston, Texas.

- April 2016 - IRA starts buying online ads on social media and other sites. IRA's Blacktivist Facebook group promotes and organizes a rally protesting the death of Freddie Gray. It attracts large crowds in Baltimore.

- May 2016 - Two competing rallies are held in Houston to alternately protest against and defend the recently opened Library of Islamic Knowledge at the Islamic Da'wah Center. The "Stop Islamization of Texas" rally is organized by the Facebook group "Heart of Texas". The Facebook posting for the event encourages participants to bring guns. The other rally, "Save Islamic Knowledge", is organized by the Facebook group "United Muslims of America" for the same time and location. Both Facebook groups are later revealed to be IRA accounts.

- July 2016 - IRA employees use the stolen identities of four Americans to open PayPal and bank accounts to act as conduits for funding their activities in the United States. The IRA's "Don't Shoot" Facebook group and affiliated "Don't Shoot Us" website try to organize a protest outside the St. Paul, Minnesota, police headquarters on 10 July in response to the 6 July fatal police shooting of Philando Castile. A Black Lives Matter protest rally is held in Dallas. A "Blue Lives Matter" counterprotest is held across the street. The Blue Lives Matter protest is organized by the "Heart of Texas" Facebook group, controlled by the IRA.

- August 2016 - The IRA's Facebook account "Stop AI" accuses Clinton of voter fraud during the Iowa Caucuses. They buy ads promoting the post. IRA groups buy ads for the "Florida Goes Trump" rallies. The 8,300 people who click on the ads are sent to the Agency's "Being Patriotic" Facebook page. The IRA Facebook group "SecuredBorders" organizes a "Citizens before refugees" protest rally at the City Council Chambers in Twin Falls, Idaho.

- October 2016 - The IRA's Instagram account "Woke Blacks" makes a post aimed at suppressing black voter turnout. The IRA runs its most popular ad on Facebook. The ad is for the IRA's Back the Badge Facebook group and shows a badge with the words "Back the Badge" in front of police lights under the caption "Community of people who support our brave Police Officers."

- Septebmer 2017 - Facebook admits selling advertisements to Russian companies seeking to reach U.S. voters. Twitter announces that it identified 201 non-bot accounts tied to the IRA.

- November 2017 - Twitter tells the Senate Intelligence Committee that it has found 2,752 IRA accounts and 36,746 Russia-linked bot accounts involved in political content retweets.

- February 2018 - Robert Mueller indicts 13 Russian citizens, IRA/Glavset and two other Russian entities in a 37-page indictment returned by a federal grand jury in the District of Columbia.

- May 2018 - The Kremlin launches Moscow-based news website "USAReally.com" which is a continuation of the IRA's fake news propaganda efforts targeting Americans.

- July 2018 - Facebook announces they have shut down eight pages, 17 profiles, and seven Instagram accounts related to "bad actors" identified recently with activity profiles similar to the IRA.

- September 2018 - USAReally.com gets banned from Facebook, Twitter, and Reddit. The Wall Street Journal reports that nearly 600 IRA Twitter accounts posted nearly 10,000 mostly conservative-targeted messages about health policy and Obamacare from 2014 through May 2018.

- October 2018 - The US Justice Department charges 44-year old Russian accountant Elena Alekseevna Khusyaynova of Saint Petersburg with conspiracy to defraud the United States by managing the finances of the social media troll operation, including the IRA, that attempted to interfere with the 2016 and 2018 US elections.

- November 2018 - The Federal Agency of News (FAN) sues Facebook in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California for violating its free speech rights by closing its account in April. The FAN claims in its filing that it has no knowledge of the IRA, even though some current FAN employees were indicted by Mueller for their work with the IRA.

- January 2020 - Tvzvezda.ru, a state-owned outlet operated by the Russian Ministry of Defence posts articles claiming COVID-19 is a US-made biological weapon manufactured by Pentagon laboratories in different parts of the world. IRA agents begin promoting various COVID-19 conspiracy theories across numerous social media sites. Themes include: "Coronavirus is a biological weapon created artifically by the US to strike an economic blow to China." "Coronavirus is a fake aimed to destroy small businesses and install deep state hegemony." "Coronavirus Pandemic: the real danger is agenda 'ID2020'. Big pharma fraud led by Bill Gates."

- March 2020 - IRA establishes new troll factories in Nigeria and Ghana.


Kremlin has been perpetuating false narratives since 2014 to sow division among us. They are still going strong and the plan is working even better then they could have imagined.

I know at least some of this is true based on Mueller report findings, but you should list sources.

That Russia interfered in 2016 and are trying to interfere again is no secret, even Republicans have acknowledged that.

I just wish more could be done to stop it. Or the fact that it is happening would make people angrier. Sigh.

The fact that there hasn't been some kind of counterattack is also deeply troubling. I don't mean war...but we should have ramped up our support to Ukraine in response (like providing them armored vehicles and/or tanks and training), or did some kinda of cyber attack in retaliation.

i don't have to study politics anymore. i've reached a irrefutable conclusion. our leaders are dumb. the people that made them our leaders are even dumber.

here's my new political stance generally: i don't care what people complain about anymore. it's their own fault. shut up and eat your bs pie. you made it.

Well...it does right now....to me anyway...I think Russia is probably a nice place to visit but I wouldn't want to live there. And not just cus I don't like the cold.

But it might not matter in 4 years if things go how they'll probably go.

I was just taking a general swipe at the decisions that brought us here.

In general the rules that keep getting mr. slick over there 'elected' ? o.O are stupid.

Conversely, the ways our leaders become and stay leaders over here often...often, often seem stupid.

I'm glad to be here. But I am genuinely concerned about it.


As of the most recent info I can find we Americans, are ranked 8th in the world concerning our education.
11th in the world concerning living standards.
We live in a country that ranks 36th in the world concerning health care here.

Over-all we're 10th in the world. 10th. I would rather be first.

We're DUMBER than 8 other countries. OUR QUALITY OF LIFE is ranked 10th, TEN other countries are living better than us. 36 other countries have better health care.

Google says there's 195 countries in the world. So top 10 isn't bad. But I want us to be first.

Granted I've done little to excel us to the top spot myself either. Excuse me for being no Einstein, or, Ben Franklin, Shirley Ann Jackson? So I'm not being too hard on the good ol' U.S.A. by any means.


But still...

The stuff in the OP legit scares me. But it doesn't scare at least 40 percent of everyone else. And THAT scares me even more. That's just opinion though.
