I hardly ever post anything on facebook and when I do, hardly anybody replies.

I feel the same about fb. Years ago, it was great. But I think people are getting bored... or sick of the drama... or sick of the endlessly positive posts about how good their lives are.... Idk

What is intelligence?

I believe in the concept of "multiple intelligences" (Howard Gardner)

I think that people can be intelligent in so many ways and everyone's intelligence niche compliments others'.

Intelligence is taking piano lessons for a couple months and being a great player. Intelligence can manifest in sports (albeit along with athletic ability). Intelligence can be in a mechanic, doctor, writer, financier, or anyone else.

However, if a person excels in one area, but fails in all other aspects, it is not intelligence.

Intelligence and (high) IQ are not synonymous.

Intelligence is ALSO the ability to have metacognition, look at your situation(s), and make the best choices available and that you are ABLE to.

Buying land

If you are thinking of making a major purchase....get a bank acct set up, start trying to save so your DTI (debt to income) relationship looks better, and get a pre approval letter from your bank. In ieu od cold hard cash, that letter will suffice

hows everyone in the UK finding the snow?

And our plans are always changing. Just last night, we decuded to cut St Louis and New Orleans out. Well.... husb decided. I'd love to go back to visit NOLA. But I'm okay with cutting out St. Louis....relatively close to home and we have family in the area... will save it for another (shorter) trip sometime

Me and some friends drove to Denver, Colorado in less than two days once. about 20 hours only stopping to use the bathroom and hit a fast food joint. We were a lot younger...

Lol... I have done those horrendous drives, too, as a younger person. So gad that now I have kids as an excuse to break up trips and give them (and me) leg stretching time!

Did you like Denver? How long did you stay?

We are planning to drive from AR to Memphis, arrive in the afternoon, look around the rest of that day and stay in a hotel. Sometime the next day, after looking around more in Memphis, we are going to head to Nashville and just get a room (do nothing that day) and then spend the next 2 full days and one partial in Nashville.

Our trip has lots of car time, so I'm finding parks/malls/playgrounds in towns every 2-3 hours where we can stop for an hour and let the kids run. It will make for longer "travel time," but everyone should be more comfortable

Should I write my professor?

What did the syllabus say about class participation? If it specifically mentioned participation being worth such a high percentage, then you are stuck. If it said a lower percentage, or implied something along the lines of...."there will be some class discussions that you will be expected to participate in...." with no caveat for NOT participating, then you might have a case.

One time, I was getting a 98 in a class going into the final, and I asked the prof how bad my grade could be on the final to retain the A. Prof got furious with me....lol

Also, I have learned that the more you kiss up to the prof (asking questions, showing how much you ADORE their course and their point of view, and their ideas, etc..... your grade will always "tip" if it's on the line between two. It will also "tip" down if the opposite is true.

Once I flunked a test. I really, really should NOT have flunked, but the test answers were pretty interpretive/subjective, so I realized the prof just "didn't really like me." I made sure to ask her questions, bring ideas into the classroom, stay after and talk to her, etc. Next tests were all "A's." It sucks, but often they have egos and like to hear themselves talk; and feel as if they are smarter than you...academia is a pedestal for them...and you have to play the game.

But think about it this way if it seems unfair (and it IS unfair): You have to learn to "play the game" in so many of life's situations, so it's good practice ๐Ÿ˜Š

Not lucky at all. In Alaska you own no mineral rights. The only State i'm aware of where you own mineral rights is Texas. (I don't think it's the only State though).

My dad received monthly oil revenue because of a drill site that was in his neighborhood. It wasn't big bucks but like 50 or more a month.

I know of some people personally here in Colorado who DO own their mineral rights, but they bought a long, long time ago (late 60's). The woman in this instance, has oil under her land and is talking to attorneys about selling her mineral rights outright versus retaining the rights and having the oil company "rent" her land. Lucky situation to be in....

Buying land

In the U.S., as of late, it would be near impossible for a property owner to claim those Roman coins. In the old days, people OWNED their land. Now, if you buy a house/land, it's likely you own 6" of dirt and 6" of air. Such a pissy system. Big Al... since you've owned for so long, you may be one of the lucky ones๐Ÿ˜Ž

Nix....idk about laws there, but I've bought and sold houses and land, along with land interests, for a while. There are TONS of ways you can get screwed...in a big way, and even just a little bit, so do your homework.
There's nothing quite so satisfying as owning your own lil' piece of earth. Good luck in all your ventures, lady!
