So I'm scared I hurt a snake...

I was at work, the stupid snake came in when I was going through the door from outside back to inside and scurried into the main office. It seemed young and only tried to hide. Sadly he couldn't stay in the store obviously, so I used a tool we use to pick up trash or dead creatures from our parking lot. It's a long pole with a two pronged mechanical hand at the end activated by a squeezable trigger at the handle.

It has rubber feet on the prongs of the hand but I'm not sure how tight it was squeezing the snake. I feel I was able to keep it tight enough to stay in the prongs, but loose enough not to break the snake. I learned after the snake got out of the store, that they have bones too. I didn't feel anything through the pole that may have been any sort of bones breaking, but the snake was probably a baby and the pole was twice its size in width. I'm not sure how much I'd feel through the pole if I broke any of its bones.

Also, as the snake was making the women in the store scream and cause a scene, I wanted the snake out of the store as soon as possible. Without thinking, I used the pole to toss the snake out the back door, down a little hill. He probably feel 15 feet or so.

Now my question:

Did I likely hurt the snake?

I feel bad. It didn't try to attack me even once. It seemed mostly scared and I know I acted appropriately by getting it out of my store so it would stop scaring staff and customers, but I am not a snake handler. I know nothing about them. I hope I didn't hurt the creature, or at least something like that is something it can heal quickly from.

If the snake wasn't hurt in the fall, it is probably okay. But do any of you know lots about snakes? Are they tough enough to handle the prongy hand tool and 15ft fall? o.O

The snake is fine.
You did well.
Another day awaits.

Snakes are strong and heal well. I don't think you hurt it with the "prongy" hand tool.

Let me say I am pleased to see a bipedal show such concern for his reptilian fellows. while I am not an expert on snakes, I believe that, if it was hurt, you would probably be able to tell. Bones crack when broken, and you should realize that creatures are usually built pretty tough - snakes spend their whole lives on the ground, after all.

He wouldn't have been much safer living in your store, so I believe you did the right thing. On the other hand, I would offer...what if the snake was venomous? I do not know where you live and if there are such snakes in the area, but your job probably doesn't pay you enough to get treated for snake venom. Animal control may have been a better option.

Perhaps you're right. But I really felt no fear from the snake. I felt I was ready should he attack by staying far away from it enough that it couldn't reach anyone(and I could run.) Unless it can stretch to twice its body length somehow(who knows? I don't lol.) We have 3 or four venomous snakes in this state. Whether or not it was one, it seemed to act consistently passive. Except for having the balls to scurry into the store in the first place. He went right by my feet!

Tbh I haven't messed around with them much and I was surprised how graceful and how almost, pretty, his movement was. If I didn't know he was so darn fast I might have tried to pick it up. But I'm not stupid lol

He really acted very tame for a wild snake o.O
Poor little guy was just scared :\

I'm sure the snake is fine. I've seen them fall out of trees on purpose from more than 15 feet so it must not be a big deal to them.

I'm leaning toward that belief as well. The hill I tossed him on has a lot of brush too. There's a very good chance he landed in the bushes lol(I looked at it again the other day)

I've been sitting here feeling sorry for it but I have to remember there's a good chance it would have bitten my fingers off if it wanted lol

I am glad he's probably okay, even more glad he didn't hurt anyone and everything seems to have worked out good for everybody. ;)
