Does anyone know what happens if you eat small amounts of uncooked wild bamboo?

I've read that it's toxic. I want to know how toxic. Will you become very sick? Have to go to hospital?

Related: should I throw away my bamboo shoot pickles? I think I cooked them right to remove the toxin, but now I'm having doubts.

Just looking around, it seems that the worst that can happen is usually just food poisoning- so you may have an upset stomach for a chunk of tomorrow. If youโ€™re concerned, try calling a non-emergent Health clinic and checking with them- as until reading your post I had no idea that raw bamboo was toxic at all- so Iโ€™m not exactly the best source. ๐Ÿ˜„

I ate a shoot yesterday. I didn't suffer any consequences. I guess that's my answer.

After I ate it, I remembered that you're supposed to parboil it first to remove the toxins. The pickles that I made last summer, I carefully followed directions. I've got two jars left because my people really aren't big pickle eaters.
