No one understands the sentence "Stop hitting yourself" quite like I do.

But I do it. When I get angry I beat my head. Till there are bright lights with every impact and sometimes leave myself bruised and "seeing stars."

It's stupid. And I know it's stupid. But I won't stop. And I'm scared one day soon my hands and fists aren't going to be enough.

Next time you want to see stars and bright lights, just go outside and look at the night sky. Take a deep breath, count to 10 and just be.
Or try beating a pillar or sth.
If you keep beating your head, you could end up severely damaged or blind. Then, you'll truly be useless and a burden.
You're probably beating yourself because you feel worthless. Truth is that most of the times it's someone elses fault for our anger. You can't punish yourself for someone elses fault. And neither should you prove them right by hitting your head. Next time you get angry, try being your best self instead of your worst, and see what happens.

Self harm is a selfish act. You convince yourself that physical pain is necessary as a punishment you feel you deserve. You may have been taught to expect pain from a parent or if you spent time in the foster system. Anyway, it is learned behavior and as such it can be unlearned. With proper guidance and a willingness to want to change it can be accomplished.

I was at a bar one time and there was a guy in the bathroom smashing beer bottles against his head... he was bleeding profusely when I went in there. He would smash one and scream and then pick another one out of the trash and smash it against his skull again. There were big pieces of glass sticking out of his face but it was pretty cool. Well there was a punk rock band playing in the bar and the mosh pit was about as dangerous as smashing your face with bottles so no one seemed to mind. That's how we rolled in 1980.

I'm beginning to think he wasn't just drunk and crazy, maybe there was a method to his madness.

Help me with:

I need help.

A concussed brain is not so good at solving problems.

All I can say is that's not a good coping skill and you should try to find something to replace that.
