Today I encountered a job issue

I gave a business opportunity to colleague A
both colleague B and colleague C questioned why I didn't give it to them but to A

They were trying to give me a hard time.

I feel stressed over this.

But both B and C are not very nice people.

A is not only kind but has helped me in the past.

But B and C are people who I see more often.

I’d be straight up with them-
"A" has acted more professional and deserves the opportunity more than B and C.

I would say the same thing BUT I would leave out the "kindness" part.
Sometimes the best workers aren't always nice when it comes to business but it depends on your employment position.

I agree because of B and C are lazy and B would even abuses their power. C would play mobiles games in front of everyone while there are so much to do when the manager is away.

Kind or not , A is better at business , B and C tends to waste opportunities due to their laziness. Even if I place a chance in front of them they might be too lazy to even grab it thus wastes the opportunity.

But how do I be straight up with them?

I see them everyday and have a lot of mutual friends, other than that we don't have much of a relationship I would say.

Never put yourself or your business at a disadvantage just because you want to be nice. Do what's best for you and your business.

Thank you , I think I need to think of a more effective way to deal with this.

Maybe a little white lie might be effective here? If you say that A and you had discussed this earlier and A seemed like a really good fit? That it’s nothing personal, and you would’ve offered it to them, but you felt A would be good at it and you wanted to give them a chance?

Thanks we kind of didn't mention it again but I will try to help B and C in the future just to be more fair I guess.
