My boss is just awful.

I had a family member pass away earlier last week. And I have been pretty upset about it. Last week I came into work (now I did take the rest of the week off) but I came in Tuesday because I only had to work 4 hours. I only came in because (1) I live in another state and my family hadn’t even made funeral arrangements yet and (2) I thought for 4 hours it would be a distraction and I would be ok. And I’m not gonna lie, I have been pretty upset about this. My family has had a rough time the past year.

What I’m getting at though. Right before I left a lady came in for an interview. I walked to the back to inform my boss and I just can’t believe how she treated me. She knew about the death in my family. But she still jumped all over me about something that doesn’t just concern me. It concerns everyone who works there. She was upset that we weren’t making our monthly goal in donations. I don’t know why she waited until then to say something or why she even said anything at all. I feel like that should have been for everyone to hear and not just me. I’m not the only one who works there. And I did point this out when I was leaving because I was upset at how she treated me. And she was like “I didn’t mean to direct it at you. I was just saying about everyone.” Even my friend, another coworker, said that was not the time to do it. Honestly, I thought it was in poor taste and just proved to me that she doesn’t give a crap about any of us. I thought me and her had a pretty good working relationship but after that, we don’t. Now I don’t want to make excuses or anything like that cause she is our boss and has a job to do, but at the same time, I feel like she purposely did it. I’m not the only one who works there. And I feel like instead of jumping all over me, she could have called a meeting to discuss her disappointment. I can’t help if others aren’t doing their jobs. I’m just one person. And I really hate having to go back tomorrow and working with her.

Hmmm. It almost sounds like you two were fine before this but this one infraction soiled everything.

It makes sense that you are offended by this behavior but people make mistakes. It could be the magnitude of your feelings is exaggerated right now because of your recent loss.

I'm very sorry for your loss.

If I'm remembering correctly - are you the same person who was putting in more work/effort to get donations but another peer made more by getting lucky?

If so, I really think you should look for another position :( If not, consider Lano's words.

If you don't like your boss find another one.

One of the best feelings ever, is to be able to tell a boss you hate, to go *****bitch to someone else. Or maybe telling her to do it her own helpless self. Or even better tell her both! Right before walking out leaving them without you to do it for them like the peon goat they think you are.

****Fuck these people find new ones.
