I don't because it seems too over the top for me and I generally do not like to watch political shows in my spare time.

I have watched a little john oliver recently. He has specific topics he takes on and he is pretty smart on it (though biased of course) but his point of view is very helpful at times. I enjoyed this video a lot:

I also liked a more recent one he did on Vote By Mail

Maybe I should check out Patriot Act.

wasn't john oliver part of another bit before he hosted his own show?

Apparently he was on the Daily Show, which is another show I never really watched much of.

Again, I'm not huge on political shows. Lately I do listen to a lot of political podcasts, but a lot of that is more about me just being disgusted with Trump and needing to hear smart people talk about how horrible he is. It's cathartic and informative (though again, biased so you gotta take what such people say with a grain of thought).

Like the Jon Oliver video I posted here, at one point he talks about the exchange between the white guy holding a Confederate flag and a black man I think Oliver's take was a little off the mark.

Not all white people in the South were slaveholders, in fact, most weren't. And the cost of a slave was a big part of that. However, now that I think about it, the Confederate Flag guy kinda admitted in saying that that his family probably WOULD have bought slaves if they COULD afford them, so actually maybe Oliver is right there, though he didn't make his point very clear.

Regardless, no one is right all the time, and everyone tends to cite the facts that support their view and ignore the stuff that doesn't. It's how these things go so you gotta keep your head on a swivel and use your best judgement.

Is there a specific episode you found enlightening or do you tend to watch them all?

I tend to zero in on specific topics that interest me.

No, relaxing is what you can't do. Gotta be diligent and remind yourself o' that every moment as you listen to anything anyone says.

I like Patriot Act. I also watch John Oliver's show.

I started watching The Daily Show with Jon Stewart when I was a junior in high school (2003). I went to his rally in DC 2010 and saw Stewart live in 2012. I watched the Colbert Report too but I never really watched The Late Show when Colbert took over.

Minhaj isn't for everyone - sometimes his comedic style is "over the top". I think he does well, though. I prefer Oliver's dry British humor, but I can get down with Minhaj too.

To me, The Patriot Act will always be the legislation that made it okay for the government to spy on our digital lives without a warrant. It can never be anything else.

The end of trust and the public recognition of betrayal by my own country.

I will never allow the name of that legislation to become some kind of awesome *******fucking youtube show. (the actual betrayal happened a long time before I could even recognize it)

To do so would offend my morals and belief in what I thought America was supposed to be.

Minhaj may or may not be someone I can completely agree with or not. But even if I were to watch and think it's awesome, he should have picked a less offensive name to call his show.

Well, irony has been a major theme in my life since as far back as I can remember. Irony is another normal day at the office for me. It's not funny because it's real life and always has been. Maybe I should move to wherever you are. You're clearly not as pissed off about it as I am. Maybe wherever you are is doing the freedom thing better. It's ******fucked up here though. And there's no way I can be nonchalant about it.

I don’t think it’s funny but if I spend my days being furious at all the horrible things happening in the world, I’ll never get anything done and will only hurt myself.

I’m not “nonchalant” but if you can’t comprehend sarcasm or irony, then there’s really nothing left for me to say here.

If you spent every day being as furious as me, and if everyone else spent every day being as furious as me, maybe all of us would roll up on some assholes doors and get them to change some ****shit for us do you think? Demand change or else hold some people accountable the old fashioned way.

Maybe that would be what happened if everyone was as furious as me all the time.

But you sit back, and look at your Facebook memes to make yourself feel better about how much bullsh*t we're having to eat.

Memes just don't make me feel better about being screwed over every day.
They just don't. I wish I could be like that but I can't. It'd be easier if a FB meme could make all OUR problems go away lol

If millions of people getting furious and demanding change is weird or somehow an over-reaction to what is going on today then I'm clearly too sensitive. I don't understand that it's okay.

Maybe it is okay and it is an over-reaction. Perhaps I should learn to be lied to and screwed over every day and just smile about it? LOL

Laugh about cats falling out of windows? Hm?

Why aren't all of you mad as hell?

I’m being a crotchety witch today Anon, my bad.

Looking at memes and watching satire doesn’t make our problems go away, believe me, I’m aware. You SHOULD get angry and demand change.

But being furious 24/7 isn’t going to do anything either. You have to compartmentalize or you’ll lose any will to live.

So I can enjoy this show, have a laugh, learn something new AND be angry about the horrible things happening in this country in the same day. It doesn’t have to be one or the other, right?
