Do you have to enable file extensions first? Haven’t used Windows in ages, but I remember that being a necessary thing to happen before you could rename like that.

First off, is it a gif file to begin with? Did it come from another site or did you create it?

If off the internet what was the file name it saved as? You could try just Googling that same file name with the dotgif at the end to see what other sites it might be on.

How do you change a JPEG to a GIF?
Steps
Open the JPEG file using the image-editing software you normally use.
Adjust the size or perform any other editing functions that you desire before you convert the format.
Click on the “File” menu and choose “Save as...” ...
Use the arrow for the drop-down menu next to “Save as type” and choose the GIF option.

If you've converted it to a jpeg, you've lost some data, so you can change it back to a gif, but it will lose the animation you are probably expecting it to have.

Most of the time you should have no issue saving a gif from a website though?

No code. Just get the url from wherever it’s from and drop it in, like:

http://example.com/image.jpeg

We don’t currently host images (they take a ton of space on the server which increases costs pretty drastically)

So best way is to upload to another source like imgur or another media platform, then you can drop the link in.
