There's a story bout a man that was in one of the floods down south not long ago(somewhere in Florida).

Authorities drove a Jeep with a sort of transport carrier behind it to help evacuate residents after a destructive storm was moving in the towns direction.
A man there refused to go with the rescue officers though. He felt strongly that through his faith the lord would protect him. So the officers left.

Later, the storm came and the flooding began. Water rose higher and higher until it began to flood the mans house. Eventually busting in the mans windows and doors.

Officers searching for people who may still be in the area came back through on a large raft. The officers advised the man to get on the raft and evacuate immediately. The man still refused and stayed at his house fully faithful the lord will protect him.

Finally, realizing the flooding would likely destroy most of the town, officers sent helicopters to make sure they hadn't missed anyone. The officers that tried to get the man on the boat, tried one last time to evacuate the man after finding him now stranded on his roof.

"God will protect me" the man told them as they gave up and flew away.

The man died.

When he got to heaven he met god and asked him "God, you failed me, you let me die in the flood. How could this happen?"

God said to the man "Go to hell you stupid fool, I sent you a jeep, a raft, and a helicopter. What else did you expect????"

I feel like the first time I heard that story was in church as a kid and the point was that we should learn to recognize when god is giving us a gift and not to shun it.

It is fun to poke fun at silliness though.

Unless you're referring to faith healing, which isn't a mainstream religious doctrine, i don't think your logic really follows.

As far as i know you can be religious and still be afraid of getting sick.

Anyway as a rational nonbeliever you ought to be praising their appropriate response to the situation, which helps all of us, rather than ridiculing them for it.

In the cultural conflict between antitheism and religion, the antitheist ought to praise the other side when they do good things, since these are behaviors you ought to want to promote rather than dumping on them no matter what they do, and seeming biased as a result.

I'm voting for another four years of Trump!

I'd vote for bernie if he is the nominee but he isn't going to be at this point (he's too far behind) so can we all agree to not be crazy bernie bros and vote for biden in nov and get rid of mr. Spray on tan

I've already heard about groups supporting bernie saying they won't vote for the dem nominee if its not him which makes 0 sense.

We have reached a point in history where the prez should be decided by the popular vote...problem with that is republicans won't have it because they know that would put them at a disadvantage.

Its politically impossible right now because getting rid of or even changing the electoral college would require an amendment to the constitution and that would take years to pass and probably wouldn't becausw there are just too many red states for that to be realistic.

That said, to be balanced, if the shoe was on the other foot the dems would be just as reluctant to amend the constitution in a way that decreased their short term political power as a trade off for a more democratic way of deciding things.

One way to make the electoral college more democratic would be to make it proportional. Meaning if you get 80 percent of the vote in a state, you get 80 percent of the electors for that state.

Republican rhetoric around impeachment was driving me crazy when they kept saying that trump won "an electoral landslide." First off, the fact that they had the chutzpah to qualify his so called landslide as an "electoral landslide" when he lost the popular vote.

And second of all, if hilary won Pennsylvania and Florida, both of which Trump won by THE SKIN of his teeth, he would have lost and lost "big". That is NOT an electoral landslide.

Yeah he was funny and "just telling it like it is" when the stakes were/seemed low but now you have a pathological liar telling all of us false things about a national crisis it seems like we might as we as well go all in on crazytown right? You can't drop a grand on a single slot machine and then start playing another one!

Do you listen to podcasts?

One that is fun that i listen to but that can be hit or miss is Girls Gotta Eat. The target audience is clearly young women but they still crack me up sometimes.

Also there is a DnD playing podcast called Nerd Poker that is basically a comedian, Brian Posehn, playing DnD with his friends and hilarity often ensues. There are lots of DnD playing comedy podcasts that can be great. Adventure zone is a pod that was originally about DnD that is hilarious. They changed the game to something less rules based and i dont like it as much so i stopped watching it.

There are tons of improv comedy podcasts. Probably the most famous one is Hello from the Magic Tavern. That started out hilarious in my opinion but got much more hit and miss as it continued. Anothe creative one is Off Book which is an improv comedy musical pod. So they basically spin improvised broadway style comedic tunes on the spot.

Improv comedy can be great but i find it loses its freshness after a while when the people are doing it every week.

I also love anna faris is unqualified which is a romantic advice podcast but with a comedic spin.

There are more i cant think of at the moment.
