So what has everyone been up to lately?

Sounds like its been an eventful bit of time for us all!

High school-> college-> massive breakdown due to family issues-> failed-> found my vocation in childcare-> Got my L2 and L3 in childcare-> moved across country-> Work in a more deprived area where I make a difference!

I feel guilty and a sense of loss over the seperation of my husband.

Well firstly, let me just say that I'm so sorry that you are holding onto this pain. It can't be an easy thing to bear by any stretch of the imagination.

Secondly (and I say this kindly) whereas you may have been emotionally unfaithful, I would argue that you were likely pushed to it and it was your strong morals that stopped anything further from happening. Sometimes a relationship match just isn't meant to be, and it becomes a toxic and painful place for both participants. From what you have said about how he would become angry/forceful/lie... he wasn't obeying one of his vows to you. Where was the love and support offered?

I suppose my point is, that the pain and isolation that was inflicted on you left you needing the positive conversations with another person where you couldn't seek it with him. You need to let go of the guilt because you did what was necessary to keep going.

You cannot set yourself on fire to keep someone warm.

My advice to you would be look at yourself as human, you have made mistakes because you are human. Treat yourself gently and with kindness, and put your past in the past to look forward.

Any fellow students/psychologists about?

Very impressive! I'm gearing up to start my next level in childcare but thats a good year off yet while I save.

I only have a bit of basic knowledge of psychology, most of my knowledge is grounded in the under 19's brain development and mental health

How have you enjoyed clinical psychology?

Hello Amber, it's been so long. As Aeolian said, we are all older now :)

We certainly are, I can't quite fathom it having been so long!

Not sure if anyone is interested but the original Help started in 1999.

Exactly the same for me, the school i was at was definitely not an understanding one in that sense. I found this site when i was about 10 years ago! Got me through tough times and i loved being able ti give back too. Long live help!

I think a lot of people joined similarly on the old site!! I loved being able to help people too, and the fact that it had such impact on so many of us that we remember it almost a decade later is incredible

I think I found it when I was around 13/14 and suffering with the first of many bouts of depression.

It gave me a safe space filled with people who I could talk to without judgement. I actually met my current fiance on the site. I would never have been who I am without it!
