As it turns out I need some advice :)

Some of you may have known of my ambitions to join the military in my earlier years was unfulfilled due to being 'medically unfit.'

However, I recently learned that my local cadet corps (My old corps) is looking for an instructor. I'm talking with the CO tomorrow about the position.

What I don't know is whether I should bring a resume along or not, as this is supposed to be an informal meeting.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Bring a resume. It doesnt have to be utilized. Writing a resume helps with your self esteem. It brings you into your power and self worth . Gives you an edge of confidence. Even if you dont use it tomorrow.

Being over prepared is always better than being under prepared, in my opinion. If you’re traveling by personal vehicle- you could always bring it with you and leave it in the car to retrieve if needed?

If you know the CO well and it’s more of a friendly chat and you’re confident you’ve already got the job, I’d leave it.
Otherwise it doesn’t hurt to bring along. Maybe bring it in a thin folder that you can keep with you. If they ask about it- you can tell him what it is and hand it over.

Bring the resume. You don't have to present it until and unless you need to.

But having a resume ready gets your thoughts in order, puts you in the mindset of having your assets front and center, so to speak...

One of my favorite quotes of wisdom; "it's better to have it and not need it, than need it and not have it." Usually, that quote was mostly said about umbrellas when it looked like it might rain, but the principle still works in any other situation.

As has been said above - take it, just in case! As for sexy resumes, heres a couple of links (my favorite at the top) to help. Good luck!

So, as it turned out I didn't need the resume. And at this point I have taken the first steps to becoming an instructor.
Now I just need to fill out the million pages of paperwork, get some references, and get the police check done.
Sigh. 😄

So what exactly is your prospective job. How did you secure it. What was the protocol to getting this job? Are the top guns just going to hire you without some docunebtation that your qualified?

My primary job will be teaching the cadets (ages 12-19) the course curriculum (Which includes: leadership, drill, bushcraft, orienteering, civic duty, etc). As for qualifications, as a former cadet I should (in theory) know it all 😄 That said the CO knows me, and my position within my job, so he knows that I'm qualified.

As for getting the job, the biggest thing is getting the Vunerable Sectors Screening Police Check, because I'll be working with kids. Once that, and the other paperwork is done, it is sent up the chain of command, and then approved or not.

From what the CO said though he has never seen one get turned down as long as the police check was clean.
