Are football players overpaid?

Like the NFL, I mean.

I think the answer is obviously yes, but what do you all think?

only the high profile athletes lol but yea.. if they're paid well they're probably expected to perform well.

maybe this for some reason why some people love to watch college football.

I think the Kardashians are overpaid too, but if I could put junk in my ***ass and get paid a million dollars for putting pictures of it on the internet I probably would.

The NFL is a global product and there is a consumer demand. In some cases, I dare say, it's a lot like religion.
Overlooking all the semantics of that, the players are paid upon a signed contract NOT by the season but by how many short run seasons they're good for. Usually 3 to 5 years (as I understand it).
Are they over paid? On one hand, who in life is paid to play games and paid millions doing it? If that's the case, I want the same amount for real fxn work!
On the other hand, these guys are gladiator machines getting themselves bashed in. There's a lot of high matienence involved and medical expenditures are astronomical.
But, do they deserve it - are they over paid.....?

There was once this T.V. show called "People Will Do Anything For Money." Fact is, they will and in many cases for a lot less than you would first think.
A lot less.

I have heard the "they are amazing athletes" thing. Ok, great, i can appreciate them being well paid....like does a million bucks sound good? Or is that too much? I think its too much for being a really strong or fast person.

"They get bashed up." But why? Because the money is soooo good. Would they he sacrificing themselves like that for minimum wage? Do we really need to watch people sacrifice their bodies for our entertainment like that?

And how many get hurt trying to get to that level but have nothing to show for it?

I agree there is something religious about sports that is quite off putting for me.

I'm not a fan of sports in general - not as a spectator. I would rather look at a fresh highway/traffic disaster, first, to see who is dead or dying.
Which leads me to a point - football is the roughest event we allow in our arenas today....
If I were a betting man, I would say; if you brought back the original gladiator arena, it would end all wars, reduce the prison population and 24 hour live satellite feed would entertain billions of viewers on a daily basis.
Society would be more civil again. Just my opinion though.

Sure, they are overpaid, as are many other 'entertainers'. Maybe they get bashed up, but so do others working at other, far less lucrative, jobs that are much more vital to our society. The same can be said about politicians/CEO's and other overpaid leeches.
