I have a question about a male friend.

We were catching up today and he was telling me about how he’s dating this girl from another town and then I was telling him I’m single and I don’t even know where to look. We were just talking and he out of the blue told me that I’m not lacking. And we got a bit distracted and another friend brought it up to me later. What did he mean by that? She was just like did you hear what he said and she was smiling about it. I feel like I missed out on something and I don’t know what it means.

I don’t think he meant anything but kindness when he said that. If he was interested, he wouldn’t have been telling you about a girl he was dating.

Ignore your friend - some people think EVERYONE is flirting, even when they’re just being nice.

Maybe? Idk I’ve said similar things to single friends and have heard similar when I was single. Kind of hard to tell without hearing the tone in which it was said...

As a male lizard, based on what you said above he was probably just trying to be encouraging. You expressed frustration and he said something to encourage you. I can see myself doing the same thing without intending to flirt.

If he is dating someone and now decides to flirt that is something i would not touch with a ten foot poll. You don't need that drama.
