There are, fittingly, lots of youtube videos on just that.

The key is probably either being really amusing or providing some sort of niche informational need.

I've actually just started posting videos myseld. About 12 views so far and none of those finished the vid so i'm well on my way.

The most I got was 1000 views.
But it slipped down . Embarrising
There must be a formula how to get hits.

You Tube controls who becomes popular. You pay them money and they will give you exposure to other channels.
Of course, YT is in transition with a new layout of their website. It's more deplorable and more corporate than ever before.
I've had my channel since 2009 and I have about 70 subscribers - whooohooooo!
I think my highest viewed video is the soundtrack of "Fantastic Planet," set to a series of still images. About 7,000 views.
Not a lot.

I'll say it's most of the case with people such as me and you.
Other people have good (expensive) video studios and make high end productions.
Greenscreens, Dolby surround, audio mixers, equalizers, microphones - really off the hook items.
In either case, things like that do tend to draw people in.

2 months. But. That was a double video. And my other videos went back down to under 100

Are your videos scripted or off-the-cuff? It makes a huge difference. Some Youtubers can do it and they look very good. Another are the keywords you are using. Do they show up near the top in searches? 1000 views is very very good. Follow one rule: K.I.S.S. [Keep it simple stupid]

I dunno, I just started posting a few days ago and I am up to 19 total views and at least ten percent of those is probably from my laptop and phone but I am very excited. xD

And I'm pretty sure, if I am understanding the analytics correctly, no one has even finished watching a video.

Post frequently
Comment on other peoples videos
Use interesting titles
Post on social media
Post niche or relevant topics

I think posting frequently is the biggie.

Im a big youtube star, I have 5 subs, 15 videos, and 261 views!

Those 5 subs all came in the last month after I commented on someones elses videos who made content on the same topic as mine. So if your a beauty youtuber, theres no point commenting on a gaming channel, as the audience probably wont be interested in your channel.

But if you give well thought out comments on videos on the same topic, people are likely to see if you have a channel and sub you. At the time, I only had a few videos that were actually uploaded as part of coursework I was doing to get qualified and I hadnt uploaded anything for months. But I still got the subs.

unrelated note.

Ever have a youtube video that youtube tells you has a comment on it, but when you go to check the comment...there's nothing there? I've got a vid that says 1 comment but I go lookie lookie and there is no commenty commenty.
