FALSE ADVERTISING?¬ ¬ So, with no internet at home and a hatred for my phone company (which is a service provider), I decided for the first time in my life to get a cell phone.¬ You cannot imagine my shame because I detest what society has become with these things. That's a different rant, though.¬ I buy a no-plan Android Rebel with a Straight Talk card (which costs $45 which is still far less expensive than utility service).¬ To me, the terms seems log it - I get unlimited Talk (who am I going to talk to?) I get unlimited Text (who am I going to Text?) and I get unlimited Data.¬ Okay, so...¬ Blah, bub-blah, bub-blah-blah-blah - 8 Gig and then something - something 4 Gig....¬ I don't talk, and I don't text but I You Tube (a lot) because I don't watch TV and I have an account.¬ That's it. I surf the net, You Tube (and this place) and that's it.¬ Well...a day soon came when my YouTube videos would buffer one minute for every minute of watch time.¬ What the ##ll hell is this?! I remember buffering in the 90's, it's soon to be 2018 and we're STILL "buffering?" What inexcusable extorsion! ¬ I call them up and (basically) I'm now in India (big surprise, right?) asking why my internet searches and video playback are dragging ass.¬ "Sir, you have maxed out your data allowance -"¬ "- No, not according to the plan I bought from you. Unlimited data means just that, UNlimited."¬ Well, I got tired of trying to decipher the recipe for a$$.¬ "Sir, you have maxed out your data allowance -"¬ "- No, not according to the plan I bought from you. Unlimited data means just that, UNlimited."¬ Well, I got tired of trying to decipher the recipe for a curry dish and hung up.¬ Now, it's true, there is SOME uploading and downloading I do, but I keep track of file sizes on my uploads. I can't always know what files sizes re on the download of things, but one thing I feel certain of is not exceeding...???what? My unlimited data?¬ WTF is going on?¬ Why am I going to find myself back at Wal-Mart buying another $45 card?¬ Can someone explain please?

Usually companies like these "cap" rates. So you'll be able to use X amount of data at full speed, but after you pass that limit (Which is usually pretty high, but if you're streaming hi-res video constantly you can probably pass it) then they usually cut your speeds by some amount. You still technically get unlimited data. It’s just slower than the initial speeds you were first told you’d have. Probably says they get to do that in some fine print somewhere. All the companies do it though. 🤷‍♂️

Unlimited Data: Which US Carriers Offer The Best Deals?

T-Mobile (USA)
T-Mobile does unlimited data in the US, but you will have to pay a premium for it – $70.
The T-Mobile One unlimited plan is likely your best bet but the carrier does throttle video quality on data down to what it refers to as DVD quality.
You have to pay an extra $25 a month for T-Mobile One Plus, which brings with it higher quality streaming video, free in-flight Wi-Fi through Gogo, free data roaming at 3G speeds when you travel in 140-plus countries and voicemail-to-text as well as improved caller ID features.

Sprint
Does beats T-Mobile on price, you can get on an unlimited data plan for 60 bucks a month. That includes streaming video (up to 1080p), streaming gaming (up to 8mbps), streaming music (up to 1.5mbps).
Want to get rid of these horrible restrictions? That’s another $20 a month. The cheek!

Verizon
Verizon's Unlimited data plan will cost you $80 a month and includes unlimited video in high-definition and unlimited high-speed data for everything else.

AT&T
AT&T's Unlimited Plus Plan will cost you $90 a month and includes unlimited video at standard definition (typically 480p) by default, but high definition streaming can be toggled on, and unlimited high-speed data for everything else.

Verizon or Sprint have the largest coverage areas. At least in the US. Not sure about Asia or Europe for that matter. Do you travel a lot BA1?

I have straight talk and new unliminted didn't mean unlimited and never thought i would go over their cap and 4 years later haven't, so you must be doing some heavy internet use

You're screwed. Sign up for comcast or xfinity whatever they call themselves today. It's only $220 a month here.. that's like $7.50 a day. I remember when you could buy a case of beer for $7.50, a carton of cigarettes was $7.50, a hotel room at Motel 6 was $7.50 a night, and condoms were... well who knows nobody used them.

Yeah that unlimited means unlimited until you use up so much then they slow it down until it is unusable. I thought everybody knew that Al. Good to see you back, feels good to be back myself.

Can you imagine the parents shelling out a grand for the new iPhone for their teenager and then locking it in a drawer so they can't go over their unlimited limit in less than 48 hours?
