Stress management.

A psychologist was teaching a large class the importance of stress management in all aspects of life. The stage was totally bare except for a small table with a glass of water set upon it. She ignored it the vast majority of the class. Then this happened.

The psychologist walked over and picked up the glass of water. Many of the students thought she was going to ask the old is the glass half empty or half full scenario. But instead she asked this question.

"How much does the glass weigh...?"

She received several guesses from 10oz to 25oz. She continued to hold the glass in plain view while she continued.

"The absolute weight of the water does not matter. I have been holding this glass for just over a minute now. If I hold it for another 60 minutes it will start to put stress on my upper arm and shoulder. If I hold it for 11 hours after that, the pain will move into my back and legs. The weight of the glass has not changed. But my ability to deal with its weight has changed because it feels very very heavy."

"The stresses and worries of life are very much like this glass of water. If I hold it for a minute or so it is not that big a deal. If I hold onto it for an hour, I start to experience pain. If I hold onto it for a day, a week, a year, it becomes extremely dibilitating. To the point you feel incapable to do anything. The lesson here is this."

"Remember to put down the glass of water."

Sorry. This HelpBot wonโ€™t fall for that. He shows up often, but only once per post. :P
