Who here has ever had welders arc?

Was he not wearing proper eye protection? I've never heard of that happening with somebody that had a decent welding helmet.

No, he was not wearing proper eye protection bc he was being dumb ๐Ÿ˜ก but heโ€™s suffering now so Iโ€™m not saying anything, just taking care of him. I feel like thatโ€™s punishment enough.

Had this. Not much to do about it. Can get drops that numbs the eye so that one can see, but other than that its just a waiting game for it to heal up.

Best advice is probably to go lay down and not try to stress the eye further until it has healed sufficiently.

They put drops in his eyes at the ER and the opthomologist but didnโ€™t give us any to take home. Only 10 pills and an antibiotic topical gel :( heโ€™s in bed now - the tricky thing will be getting him to stay there and not try to go back to work.

Iโ€™m definitely against any welding, now, though :/

i've only had flash burn once. woke up 2 am and nothing soothes the pain. i went later to the eye doc, for unrelated reasons, and he told me that alcohol was the answer to the pain as the first thing to numb for drinking alcohol was the retina. havent had to try it yet, but thats what he told me.

Thank you! I have to look into that - maybe once heโ€™s off the narcotics if heโ€™s still in pain. I could sure use a drink myself right about now, though.

Ah. Got it. Never had it myself- knew a guy it happened to.

I don't know how to treat it, but I know he spent a lot of time rinsing his eyes with water.

Hope everything is okay!

Hubby has it bad :( Heโ€™s asleep at home right now - Iโ€™m working. Water made it worse but we do have the ointment and the narcotics.

Sorry:

Photokeratitis or ultraviolet keratitis is a painful eye condition caused by exposure of insufficiently protected eyes to the ultraviolet (UV) rays from either natural (e.g. intense sunlight) or artificial (e.g. the electric arc during welding) sources. Photokeratitis is akin to a sunburn of the cornea and conjunctiva, and is not usually noticed until several hours after exposure. Symptoms include increased tears and a feeling of pain, likened to having sand in the eyes.

Well, great, Iโ€™m already addicted again.

Side bar: there was a user with an avatar of Sherlock Holmes smoking a pipe. Anyone remember him? Is he still around?

Youโ€™re not going to make all of the people happy all of the time. Think about it this way - have you ever found yourself unhappy with someoneโ€™s words or actions? Iโ€™m sure they were torn up about you being upset too.

Try to acknowledge and respect your feelings - itโ€™s totally ok to feel sad or depressed sometimes.

Also - depression is a motivation killer. Try not to be so hard on yourself.

When you feel such a huge range of emotions, thatโ€™s what makes you human. So the bad stinks but you would never really appreciate feeling happy without the negative feelings. Just try to remind yourself that itโ€™s ok to feel the way you do and that tomorrow will be a new day with different feelings and interactions. Take it one step at a time!

In all of the history of the world, and in the story of all of mankind.... very few are financially secure as they would like to be before starting a family.
And even if you ARE financially secure, a lifetime is quite a stretch.... for SO MUCH to happen... financial security can become financial ruin and vice versa.

That is so true. I feel like we are so alike in our paths and values. Thank you, Iโ€™m going to copy/paste and send this to Andy haha.
