I had a dream of being a corpse and hearing a beautiful women singing.

That doesn't seem so bad, jeb, having your eternal rest accompanied by the croon of a dulcet angel...

In one of my own death dreams, its distinguishing characteristic was the silence - unable to hear, unable to scream. Trapped in a room, could not wake myself (it usually works). Watching images from my past roll by, unable to reach out to them.

There was a news item the other day that taxi drivers around here refuse to run meters and overcharge on weekends & holidays. Their union had uber banned in court last month or so.

Dunno whether it qualifies, since it's neither by an individual nor malevolent, but that's the sort of impression I had of reactions to talking about depression. Pretending it isn't there since it shouldn't be, for lack of evidence.
Kinda reminiscent of orwell's 1984, in a nutshell.
Probably have done it, mostly in transparent shenanigans.

Why can't I write?

Everybody's presented excellent solutions.
Would like to note that good ideas are quite volatile, you could spawn & elaborate a whole intricate scene in your mind only to lose or confuse them once pen hits paper; I like to associate parts of these constructs with special keywords (either written down or recalled), so I can backtrack through the thought soup later, keeping them written ahead breaks down the writing task into paragraphs.
Write to yourself, in order to tone down speculative criticism.
Reading others' works helps with finding a preference for style, but I think a creative process might begin with observation or recognition, of how abstract concepts might interact, or reaching a certain end result, and pick a (probable) route to follow thence.
Besides knowing the plot, I've read that it helps building and remembering the characters' voices, motivations, values. So the plot isn't arbitrarily pushing them forward, rather their plans & reactions set events in motion.
