One thousand and one, one thousand and two, one thousand and three, one thousand and four, one thousand and five.

THANK YOU. Five seconds of silence for all the senseless deaths of children at Sandy hook. It's been 5 years. Again, I say THANK YOU.

As someone going into the teaching field, I am scared sh!tless when I think about what happened there. Hopefully going forward from Sandy Hook, schools will be better prepared to spot and treat students with mental illness...

The majority of true mental illnesses aren't seen til it's too late, and even when the person suffering tries to get help they're ignored, until something major happens and it's too late

There's also a huge population of society that doesn't acknowledge or "believe" in mental illness to begin with. So it's hard to get people the help they need when other people in charge don't believe they even need it.

Back in my day they actually had homes for the mentally ill. Of course they were mistreated and abandoned and it just looked bad so they closed them all. Now the mentally ill are basically living amongst us as outpatients and when one of them snaps things like Sandy Hook happen. I guess we have to choose between having warehouses full of borderline crazy people and having the occasional mass murder. Sometimes I wonder which is best...

Oh, like asylums? Where they use to dump women who read too much? Those places seemed terrible...especially for the mentally ill. And lobotomies...I can't even imagine that existed not too long ago...

Here's a list of reason for being put in a looney bin. It's pretty entertaining, and actually it looks like you could put anyone in if you wanted to. Too much ************masturbation or not enough are both reasons. I wonder what the proper amount is?

I am dying to know what "imaginary female trouble" means. Along with "women trouble."
apparently drinking bad whiskey was a good enough reason to be put away? Or being seduced and disappointed, or my personal favorite - novel reading. They could literally use any of these excuses to put anyone they wanted away.

There are some pretty spectacular reasons there.

Thanks for all the replies. I'm sure the loss of all those children's precious lives will be in your hearts this Christmas season.

Peace be with you.

Some of the barbarians in the "mental health field" have brought back electroshock therapy. This tells me that psychiatry is still in the Middle Ages. No wonder we have so many crazy people running around--when the so-called mental health professionals are even crazier!

The suicide rate among psychiatrists is quite a bit higher than for the general population.

And let us not forget the Army psychiatrist at Ft. Hood who shot something like nine people.
