Forbidden Planet.

For those interested in psychology, or science fiction, or classic movies, I draw your attention to "Forbidden Planet."

Walter Pidgeon. Anne Francis. Leslie Nielsen. Robbie the Robot. Animation by Disney.

What are monsters from the id? You need to watch the movie to find out in this movie that was decades ahead of its time, and is today a timeless sci-fi classic.

Here's a link to a trailer: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0049223/videoplayer...

I've seen it many times. It's unforgettable. It has been compared to Shakespeare's "The Tempest" and it recalls Jung's theory about the collective unconscious mind.

I have this movie!
"The ID, John - monsters from the ID!"

This movie is HIGHLY under-rated.

The writer of this story was far ahead of his time.

The Krell planet, the brain booster - the transference of matter into any shape desired.

Completely ahead of the curve, even by today's standard.

I once wrote a short story based on this, called "The Krell Gate."

The gist was this:
A ship crashes containing the Krell Gate. An unsuspecting victim finds (her) way into the ship where she is restrained to "the table" by the ships AI system. The Gate is activated. A special laser replaces the molecules of (her) body with denser, more radioactive elements. Then, the Gate opens. Through the portal, steps the Librarian. With his hands, he downloads the entire sum of the knowledge of the universe into her mind.
When the (hero) awakens, she has a form (more or less) of bodily energy. She isn't aware of all the knowledge she has but as it "leaks" through in stages, it makes her more powerful through every cycle (KRONOS).
The race is to return her back to "normal" before she loses her self and her identity as a mortal. A race before she reaches god-level status.

Sadly, consumed in a house fire. Will re-write it someday.

An event of my younger, darker days in the 90's. Days of ash from which I was reborn with a new set of values and appreciation.
Thank you for your kind thoughts.

That "Forbidden Planet" movie might be worth watching just to check out Anne Francis, the classic 1950's girl next door.. I may have to start another Pinterest board just for her, or at least her own section on the Blondes Have More Fun board.

I watched this movie when I was really young with my mother. She loves the classic science fiction movies. I remember being slightly bored, which made sense because I had to be 10 or so. Maybe younger. But it had enough of an impact to remain in my memory, which means a lot.

This movie, produced in 1956, was about the far future--but it certainly captured the "Zeitgeist" of the 1950s era--people just don't act that way today.

The men in the movie undoubtedly used Brylcreem on their hair. That was de rigueur in the 50s and early 60s. Then Vitalis came along and derided Brylcreem as "greasy kid stuff."

But Brylcreem hung in there--their website today says, "Actually, it never left. Brylcreem has long been famous for the timeless slicked back look that keeps hair perfectly in place. But itโ€™s got even more going for it. One small dab and it shines, styles and conditions hair. Itโ€™s 3 grooming products in 1. Saving you time and counter space."

I still don't like greasy-looking hair!

I seem to remember a hair product in the 70's & 80's called "Dipity Doo."
A thick styling gel you ran through your hair and let dry. After brushing/combing you hair held its shape and style.

I don't really like the greasy look either! Slicked back looks nice when it's clean and healthy, but not dirty!

That's too funny, I just remembered I was just telling my wife I wanted some of the greasy stuff for my hair for Christmas and she wouldn't buy it. "Greasy kid stuff" I mean, excuse me Sherlock. I actually remember those commercials too. One of them used to say "a little dab'll do ya", judging from what their web site says today it must have been Brylcreem.

I still want to go for the Elvis/greaser/Fonzie look. When I was a kid my mom wasn't about to let me out of the house looking like James Dean and now it seems my wife is in charge, lol. Now I'm even more determined to find me some of that there Dapper Dan.. Vinnie Barbarino got nothing on the doc, ha!

Oh yeah and my sister always had some of that Dippity Doo stuff in the bathroom. It was green and the smell alone was enough to keep me away from it. Kind of had the texture of jello too. No way I was going to put that stuff on my head. Besides I would have gotten beaten up on the bus before I even made it to school.. kids today get bullied? Pffftt.. when I was a kid even the neighbors were allowed to spank you if they saw you do something they didn't like.

And speaking of planets, Sherlock, are you familiar with "Fantastic Planet."?

This is a terrific 70's animation with a fabulous score. It's not so much about the psyche as it is about the socio-complexities of differing structures. In French with English subs - sometimes you can get a full English dub but it really subtracts from the ambiance.
Below is a video I made with the score and story progression stills. Take a look when you have the time.
