My new puppy has extra toes?

Me and my step dad just drove 11 hours round trip to pick up my new Australian Shepherd pup, Vega
(pronounced Vay-ga)
I got her with her vet records and akc paperwork. Today is her first day home and she is laying down when I noticed what I thought was an extra toe
Then I discovered
She has two extra toes!
Her front paws are normal but both her back feet have some extra toes ๐Ÿ˜…

Uhm. I never heard of this happening with dogs? And with cats it's usually the cat is inbred of the breeder is ********breeding too close.
I have no idea what this means with dogs and from what I knew about the breeder they seemed reputable.

I dont care if she has extra toes but it really is bizarre. And I have no idea what to think.

Think they will charge me more at the groomer for nail trimmings ๐Ÿ˜?

What a pretty lady!
Many purebred have an extra toe, it's an abnormality in their dna, but two? I think you should talk to your vet about this, there's a chance she needs a surgery.

They seem to call it a double dew claw. If it's attached by bone better to leave it alone, but if it's vestigial then preferably removed (during a regularly scheduled visit to the vet) to prevent future injury & infection. Might depend on breed.

Only a groomer that is ****anal-retentive would charge extra money for trimming extra toes.

I called the vet. One is a tie, the other is a loose dew claw.

I'm gonna get the loose due claw removed so it doesnt tear.

Supposed to say one is a toe

Huh, that's nifty. Serves as some positive proof dogs are evolving to supplant humans.
