No, have you? I always thought fly fishing was for smaller fish, like trout especially. I know in the northern part of the USA pike get really big, like 20 or 30 pounds. That would seem to be a monster for a normal fly fishing rig.

We have fly fishing only on salmon and they get large, but I've never fished Pike.

I have not fished for pike on the fly before but I really want to.

Fly fishing is primarily done for salmon and trout.
You can catch salmon 30lbs or above, that'd generally be on a double handed salmon rod tho.

I've had trout around and above the 20lb mark on a single handed fly rod.

Pike here can get huge as well.

Must be something in the water over there.

I've spent a lot of time on the Wabash River. There weren't any of the invasive carp there then.

I don't think our rivers are too bad for carp.

We have lots of stocked still waters with carp in

Rainbow / sea trout hybrid

Didn't get a pic of the 20lb one.

Got my phone wet the day before wading deeper than my jacket could handle.

That is a nice fish.

I wish I could cross the pond so that we could go fishing together. :) I actually need to get my fishing licence again this year. :/

That was in Argentina, but I'd happily meet you there so we could go fishing

I've just got my new one.
Just gone for the non migratory one this yr as it's unlikely I'll have any time to go river fishing.

Fantastic!
I hear the time issue too. I've been driving with the rods in my trunk for years and I have friends that own beautiful lodges. Maybe this year I'll make a commitment. Thanks for reminding with your smile what's important!

I'm told it's a nasty issue.
Here we're having a problem with large mouth bass eating everything. We're going to eat them:)

I have my rods permanently in the car, but mine are used A LOT.
Very rarely for fishing anymore tho, always just out casting.
My birthday was the first time in ages I'd been fishing.

Get back out there!!

Eastern Canada. Our salmon and other fishing is strictly regulated. These bass are making their way into all rivers and lakes eating up baby fish. The government is letting us catch them now. Some get up to 40 lbs.

I'm pretty sure the world record large mouth bass is only about 25 pounds, are you sure you are talking about them? People in the USA spend a fortune stocking them everywhere. They are the number one game fish for anglers.

They're called sea bass or strippers. They're yellow with black stripes.

It drives me mad when people in the UK talk about catching or eating our sea bass.

They're called bass!!!!!
Yes they are from the sea, but they're still just called bass, not sea bass.

We don't have sea cod, sea tuna, sea mackerel, so why sea bass??!!!!

For you guys in USA/ Canada sea bass is acceptable, but we only have one type of bass and it lives in the sea.

You need to refer to one as sea bass to differentiate between them, we do not!!!

I want to throat punch anyone English that mentions sea bass here.

It's fu**ing bass!!!!

lol..good eating:)
We have very strict fishing laws. We were not allowed to fish them a few years ago and a license costs almost 40.00 for a short season.
