How to curb extreme irritability from depression?

I dont know how to deal with it. Everything is making me angry, from a phone ringing to someone trying to grab my attention. I am so exhausted and now i feel like a jerk and i dont mean to be. I just want this to stop.

Not the best solution, but simply: realize that you’re being irrational and be overly “nice” as a response when you’re irritable to compensate.

Get some decent sleep.

Make a less demanding schedule.

Consider a vacation.

Grant yourself some simple wants and/or desires.

Take your meds.

If you are spiritual, it may be time to focus on that aspect of your life.

Find a hobby or a form of craftwork that you can release excessive energy into.

Cut down on people, social media, television and your smart phone.

Eat a better diet.

Capture that moment you begin to feel like a jerk and translate it through humor.

Hope this helps. It sucks when the chips are down.

If you’re sitting down, stand up. Physically move yourself from the situation. Take some deep breaths. Get out of your own head!

I like what @BA1 said with one exception. At these negative instances of your life you can't plan a vacation. Not without some casualties along the way. I would also add to talk about this with your doctor. Your moods can be easily affected by medicines you take. Perhaps a change of prescriptions is in order. And I do hope you are not mixing alcohol or other drugs such as marijuana with your prescribed medications.
Other than that, find humor from somewhere. I recommend reading. Do you like books?

Drink 2 cups of coffee. Beat the living hell out of your pillow for 15 minutes without stopping. Be panting when you do. Then report back how you feel.
