So stop worrying about what others think. Just be you. Full stop. You are the only person on the entire planet that can be you. So screw what anybody else thinks. Hold your head high. You voluntarily stayed late to finish a task you could not finish in a normal shift. Bingo! They found their pasty. Work a bit harder so you finish your work on time. If he asks you to stay late, apologize and say you can't. Simple fix.

It seems to me he's made his feelings pretty obvious. Why are you trying to read between the lines here? I don't think there's gonna be anything to find.
