Is there a killer in your home?

When the Hoover dam was constructed, pipes with water running through them were incorporated into the concrete to speed its cooling--otherwise it would have taken a century for the cement in the dam to "set"!

When doing threat assessments in Canada, I look at radon gas as one threats to be evaluated.

I haven’t gotten any cravings to smoke (Day 10 Nicotine free!) but I’ve been told I’m crankier, I have a gross cough that won’t go away, and I’m tired all the time.

Of the things I hate in this world, smoking is in the top five. I was in the military at the time the commander or first sergeant would say, "Smoke 'em if you got 'em." Never mind that nonsmokers didn't want to breathe in all of that second-hand smoke.

My father smoked a lot. In Alaska, when it was 40 below zero Fahrenheit outside, he'd light up and fill the cabin of the car with cigarette smoke. If I complained, because the smoke burned my eyes, he'd tell me to shut up. Opening a window in that cold was really not an option. Other people's smoking has already taken a toll on my lifespan.

Now medical researchers have shown that THIRD hand smoke, i.e., residues from cigarette smoke, can embed within upholstery, curtains and carpets and further inflict the health hazards of smoking on people in that environment.

I am sure that all people involved in the production and marketing of cigarettes are all going to hell.

After all, it's the only "legal" product, that when used as directed, will kill you.

I tell people who want to ban guns to get cigarettes banned first if saving lives is truly their motivation!

Well, that's great news, Araz! Here's something for you to feast your eyes on:

In 2000, 67,600 women died from lung cancer. During 2010–2014, almost 282,000 women (56,359 women each year) will die from lung cancer. Smoking increases the risk of dying from coronary heart disease among middle-aged women by almost five times.
CDC - Fact Sheet - Tobacco-Related Mortality - Smoking & Tobacco Use
www.cdc.gov/tobacco/data_statistics/fact_sheets...

And you are probably too young to remember the late, great Yul Brynner, who died from lung cancer as a result of smoking:

Whatever you do, Araz, just don't smoke!!!

well, the shithole has hit the fan...

I am all for immigration that is legal and controlled. I am for the acceptance and fair and humane treatment of legitimate refugees.

What I am not in favor of is illegal and uncontrolled immigration (there is no RIGHT to come into someone else's country without their permission), "economic migrants" who are not true refugees, but are trying to claim that status, and allowing hordes of people into Western countries who do not share the original inhabitants' values, morals or ideals--and who would, if given a chance, introduce the same cultural norms, attitudes, ideas and laws that turned their own countries into garbage pits in the first place.

This is not to say that ALL people from certain regions are prejudiced or stupid. Those people should given given a shot at legal immigration.

That said, we should not be importing people who hate those who believe differently than they do, who don't believe that women have any rights, and who believe that they have a God-given right to kill anybody who "insults" their religion, its deity or the founder of their religion. We have already seen what happens when Western nations allow those kinds of people to cross their borders.

Have you ever loved someone you shouldn't have?

It is a star-crossed relationship. You would always remind her of dashed hopes, of failure. You succeeded: she went down in flames. She does not want a constant reminder of that. Because of what happened, the two of you cannot be equals.

Did you ever think of asking tge employer to give her another chance? Some people just freeze up on tests.
