Anime recommendations, Go!

please spare me the fan-service, generic high school setting or harems.

I'm looking for badass story line, relatable characters and great animation.

Jeez, okay well here's an incomplete list of the shows I've seen/types I watch:

Some older stuff: ruroni kenshin, samurai champloo, trigun, big-0, cowboy beebop, dragon ball z, wolfs rain, fruit baskets, berserk, inuyasha, nartuo, gurren lagan

Some newer stuff: attack on titan, one punch man, my hero academia, madoka magica, garagntian planet (I feel like I'm missing a few but can't recall)

and basically all Ghibli / Chizo films

SAO (Sword Art Online) and HxH (Hunter X Hunter) are my two favorite anime.

One Piece is also a very good one, but it's loooooooooong and takes a while before it gets really good. Plus there is occasionally a bit of filler. (Less than Naruto though)

The only anime I've ever watched was One Punch Man. Liked that one a lot, he's just so adorable. I see you saw that one already though.

I made a You Tube video featuring images of Fantastic Planet based on the musical score. This movie was haunting and hypnotic.

Neon Genesis Evangelion is my favorite. Steins;Gate and Baccano are also way up there.
Satoshi Kon's films are great and not tropey for the most part. Tokyo Godfathers, Paprika, Perfect Blue, and Milennium Actress are probably his most popular works.
Summer Wars, Wolf Children Ame and Yuki, and The Girl Who Leapt Through Time are gorgeous, incredibly touching films by Mamoru Hosoda.
Erased is a very good mystery series from a couple of years ago.
I'll most likely add a couple more as I think of them.

On paper I feel like I should like SAO, but it just falls short for me somehow. I've never watched HXH. I've heard good things about it though.

I've been meaning to watch that one. I just can't seem to find the first episode/movie. Did it start off just as a show and the movies came after? I wanna watch it from the beginning.

I've seen Paprika and Perfect Blue - they were both haunting. Wolf Children and Summer Wars are two of my favorites. I watch Wolf Children when I need a good cry, haha. Have you seen the Boy and the Beast? Same studio, great great great film.
I'll have to check out your other suggestions :)

You should definitely watch Boy and the beast!!

These are some of my suggestions:

I saw some of the episodes of Bleach when I was in my teens and it's pretty good.

Films:
Your Name
Summer wars
A silent voice
When Marine was here
The Anthem of the heart
Akira
Spirited away
Letter to Momo

Boy and the Beast is amazing.
Your name, amazing.
Summer wars, awesome.
I cried in Silent Voice.
I actively don't watch When Marnie was Here.
Never heard of Anthem of the Heart.
Akira, classic!
Spirited Away, even more so!
Also never seen Letter to Momo.
I must check it out!
