Facebook? Itโ€™s best to get roommates with people you know- even if just in passing.

I'm trying to be as discreet as possible. There's a few people on facebook that I don't want to know about it, honestly.

I've always moved in with people I was friends with. Doesn't anyone you know have an extra room? One time I moved in with a guy and slept on his couch until the lease was up and we got a place together. I don't think I could live with a complete stranger.

Help me with:

I need help.

Craigslist is definitely too risky.

How about checking bulletin boards at your nearest university?

Thatโ€™s a good idea. If you are in any groups or attend classes or anything like that you can ask around those!

I used roommates.com and spareroom.com

I had to pay $25 for 3 months, but potential room mates had profiles.

I would contact them and then text them for a time...asking about themselves, etc. Then I would meet them/show the rooms.

Ended up with 2 strangers who have lived here 5 months. I'm mostly happy with them now...after a "talk" with one...

Also bought Arlo cameras @Costco and that helps because in the common areas, anyway, people are on "best behavior"

I also have 4 kids, so cams are a safety thing too...and also security vs home intrusion

The best way to find a roommate is trial by water.

This works by firmly strapping the potential candidate to a 2 ton block of stone. Drop said stone (with them attached) into the deepest part of the ocean.
If they come up, run! (Then move off the planet)
If they don't, they are the perfect roommate ;)

Lol. You never know about rentals. Always get references if your renting. Just because someone is a landlord doesnt mean they are law abiding. I had a landlord who was a big time drug dealer and manufacturer. When I figured out who the guy was and what he was hiring workers to make meth downstairs I packed up all my belongings and left. I forfeited my security deposit. Dam the whole house could have exploded. I never rent from anyone again unless I get references. And craigslist isnt the only scam. Be careful
