Odd to say for a "Help" site, but what we have here is a group of people that don't actually like to talk to one another and in no way trust each other.

safer way to find roommates than craigslist?

The best way to find a roommate is trial by water.

This works by firmly strapping the potential candidate to a 2 ton block of stone. Drop said stone (with them attached) into the deepest part of the ocean.
If they come up, run! (Then move off the planet)
If they don't, they are the perfect roommate ;)
