What is an NSFW post?

I tried to make a new post and it has in the upper left corner the letters in red: NSFW

What does that mean?

Not

Work

It means it might include content some people wouldn't want their boss to see them viewing.

Exactly as stated above- essentially that post won’t show up for “kids” or anybody that has the hide adult content setting in their account details set to on.

If You are at an employer with Internet access, assume that every site you visit can be seen by said employer.

Even if only researching screw drivers at Home Depot.

Nope ... depends on how the individual computers are set up.

It's surprising how many allow for the browsing history if browsers to be deleted.

Some will even allow you to connect your own laptop to the network.

Many of the bigger names simply do not allow for peer to peer access across the network but control all data flow through a central server.

Google 'lemon party' for an NSFW post idea.

The OP should choose to take the risk or not. It should not be this site that takes it upon itself to do it for others.

Viewers of posts should also be able to choose to take the risk or not and not have the site do it for them.

They can do it by letting OP check whether or not post should be NSFW or not.

The current NSFW settings could be a check for everyone to have if they want the current NSFW settings.

This way OP can make the post with the original intention of getting it to everyone who will read it who will not mind if they're "NSFW" posts.

The viewers can protect themselves by continuing to filter posts the OP doesn't feel is NSFW by checking an option to leave current NSFW settings in place.

The site can send posts marked NOT NSFW as normal in the feed, or whatever, the site could still ignore any posts that would have been triggered by the current NSFW feature for all viewers by letting users check a box indicating whether they want to see them or not.

I hope this is clear cause I really want admins/devs to think about it.

Heyo. Admin/dev here.

The main goal of the “NSFW” tag is to keep non-child appropriate material out of the eyes of minors.
Yes, that only helps so much. And yes, the auto tag can occasionally grab posts that are not- but let’s be honest- posts where every other word is cursing or talking about how bad the human race is isn’t exactly a child appropriate topic regardless.

Maybe “NSFW” is the wrong tag and there should be an alternative, but for the most part- the majority of users have the filter off so they see the content anyway. On top of that, most of the posts that are incorrectly tagged that way are then untagged by myself or another mod.

If you feel a post is incorrectly tagged, you can use the “report” feature to let a mod know and they can tag/untag correctly.
I get a notification on my phone immediately when those reports come through, so unless I’m in a work meeting I can generally get to the post within a couple of minutes.

The ability to set that tag yourself is a planned feature, but there are a few kinks to work out in regards to spam and trolls that need to be dealt with appropriately first.

That is an attempted spam link. The closing html tag </a> tells me so.

This reply is trying to point you to an external url to sell you Jaguar car parts. Fun fun.

Fortunately, when it got posted, the site stripped a lot of his html code making the link an unclickable broken link.

sabinaroller may be having account hacking issues. Or is just a spammer? o.O

would have looked something like(without the spaces): "Thanks for finally writing about <a href="somespamsiteurl . com " >post help: What is an NSFW post? Jaguar xkr Parts< / a>"

This would have sent you off to some unkown website that could have done an unkown number of things to try and scam you.

Sure but spammers never want to do that. At least not until they get all your money. But it's a nice wish lol
