Every time I stand up life seems to shove me back down.

So some of you may know that my sister just kicked me out of our apartment. I had moved from the city to the suburbs to live with her. Now my sublet from my apartment in the city decided she is moving out and will not be paying this months or any rent. I have no money to pay for the apartment and she said that it is infested with moths and is unlivable. I just cant do this anymore

Oh, no! But can she do that? Don't you have some tenancy agreement which she is legaly bound to keep? :(

Are you still living with your parents? Do you need to keep the city apartment? I am so sorry you are having all these problems!

Taking the hits of life and getting back up is what teaches us to stop and appreciate magical moments in between the battles.

It is true.. but sometimes there are no 'magical moments in between the battles.'! And for some people there are no magical moments at all..

Go back home and let your sister worry about the rent. She made her bed--now let her sleep in it!

Sherlock, I think she is writing about another person who is in her apartment in the city, not her sister.

It’s the apartment I left to go live with my sister. The way the leasing office has it so all the responsibility falls on me. I would try and sublet it again but there is only 2 months left in the lease and now I guess there is a moth problem. I don’t have time to go downtown and deal with this as well as go show the apartment to possible subletors

You could threaten the subletter that you’ll be taking it to court for the months that she stayed, shouldn’t she be bound to pay the rent for the months she’s stayed there?

And why didn’t she take action for the moth problem in the first place? Sounds like shes either lying, or she brought her moths with her.

I think she wanted out of the lease and is blowing it out of proportion. But the way the leasing office is set up is I am fully responsible for the rent and the subletor so I don’t have a case. Im waiting to hear back from the leasing office about my options

Just talked to the leasing office and they confirmed I am fully responsible for the rent. They also said they had maintenance and pest control out there and there are no moths. I am extremely pissed off and now need to find a new subletor for 2 months

Where are you staying right now? Does your sister owe you any money from the time you left until now? What funds do you have available to you right this minute? When is your next pay check coming? Are you eligible for low income housing? There should be some services to help you get out from under this mess. Where to start digging I'm not sure. It is going to take lots of searches and phone calls so try to keep these services running the best you can. Don't ask friends for financial help. When you would be able to reimburse them is up in the air at the moment. Do ask family or even your employer. Keep in contact with those you owe money to. Just tell them you've had a temporary financial setback but you have every intention of making good on what you owe. No need to go into detail; they really don't care.

Ask the leasing company to pay the apartment a visit to check for themselves for any pest issue. Moths??? Sounds rather unlikely as I used to live in Chicago. If your leassor is seeing bugs I think it might be a hallucination to whatever drug she is on.

Is there anything that prevents you from moving back into that apartment other than distance?

Thanks. I am able to pay what is owed but then I will have no money in my bank account. I am living with my parents so at least I don’t have any expenses. The leasing office said that they sprayed and it took care of the issue. Now me and the leasing office are working on finding a new tenant but for now I have to pay rent. The commute and the high rent is why I can’t live there

Are you planning on keeping it after your lease is up? How much is the monthly rent? Did you happen to collect 1st, last, and rent? If you did and tucked that money away you'd be safe.

I. Was honestly my first time in subletting an apartment and I naïvely thought things would work out for the best. Unfortunately they did not. Luckily it’s only two months rent, but that’s still a lot of money. I’ve worked it out with the leasing office where they’re going to start showing my apartment and seeing if they can find me a sub letter. I also posted on my old college Facebook page asking if anyone needed an apartment was honestly my first time subletting an apartment and I naïvely thought things would work out for the best. Think about putting up a GoFundMe page, short term to get some help. I have a feeling a few of us would pitch in a few Starbucks coffees.

Thanks, I’ll survive. It’s just frustrating that I’ve been saving this money so I can move out of my parents place and get my own and now I’m set back around $3000

I would still do a GFM listing for half that. You might be surprised at what you might get back.

That’s a good idea, but I really hate asking people for help especially when there so many other people who have it way worse than me. I’ll get through this, although frustrated, It just sets my plan of finding my own place delayed

Set your pride aside for once. 3G's is a lot to put on just one set of shoulders. If it turns out you only make $50 call me every name in the book and never take my advice again. Deal?

Well, don't despair, music=life. There are folks who need short term lets. I was finding it difficult to find one, so I think there is a chance that you will find someone.

Although, you might need to advertise at online listings for short term let, or newspaper ads.

Btw, your post is kind of helping me as I am deciding right now what kind of accommodation I will go for, and one of the options was to take a bit bigger house and buddy up with one another person. After reading your post, I am a bit more careful to take on the house. But I will have to lose all of my furtniture and most things if I take just one bedroom. :(

I do hope that things work out for the best for you! xx
