The job I just left is accusing me of stealing and is not going to pay me for the week I worked there.

It has been 3 weeks since my last day and I emailed them asking if they could mail me my paycheck for the hours I worked. It was a very professional email and her response was ‘You still have a camera chip of ours.’ I never took any equipment home with me and this is the first time she has said anything. I responded telling her exactly where I left it. I know she is lying because they have posted photos from the chip on there website after I left. I don’t know what to do. I’m not even that upset about the money but more about being accused of something I didn’t do.

Leave a firebomb in their mailbox. Nooo scratch that idea yet again. Why does that seem like the answer to every question people ask me lately? Hmmm...

Are you in America? We have this thing called the Department of Labor and your best recourse is to contact them and report whoever it is that is holding your check. Government agencies do a good job of intimidating people, without putting firebombs in their mailboxes.

I am in the us, it’s frustrating because it’s only for one weeks work and I hate conflict.

You can report them to the Better Business Bureau too. Companies hate that, people look at BBB reports all the time. Screw them, money is money and if they are doing it to you they have probably done it to many others.

They can't not pay you for hours worked, no matter the excuse they use.

I have no idea. I really don’t want to take it to that level. They are a nonprofit and I hate confrontation. When I told my dad he just shrugged his shoulders saying I am out of luck. The girl emailed back saying she would tell someone else where I thought it was but didnt say anything about the paycheck

Could you email her again and ask specifically about the paycheck?

Or call her?

Just tell them you're going to take this further, they are absolutely not keeping money you earned.

Whoa, i can't believe this! When we'll we read some good posts from you?! :((

That woman is a nightmare; the good thing is that you have left the job - she would have made it a hell there for you.

If you report them, it might help the next person. Hope you will get your paycheck and be cleared from any malicious accusations.

Have you found a new job? Lodger? Bf? :) xx

I got a job offer today but I really don’t want to work there. I told them I would let them know by Tuesday. I applied for AmeriCorps. - a us volunteer program that I am excited about but I don’t think I’ll find out for a while so I don’t know if it’s worth the risk of waiting. I’ll be paying this months rent and my lease ends at the end of this month. I was seeing that one guy for about a month. He dumped me via text on Saturday.

Talk to an attorney who specializes in labor matters. Specializes--not some legal hack that just does wills and powers of attorney! You may also contact your state's labor department--or you may contact the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission. You can also contact your local legal aid society. They HAVE to pay you the money for the time you worked--no way out of that. You can sue their pants off. They THINK you are a powerless individual that they can treat any way they want. Trust me--they are on very thin ice legally, and you could become the owner of that company if you get the right lawyer!
