Other than guessing from language, can anyone tell who the anonymous posters are?

It would be better if the images reset periodically. @Rockster160 is that possible?

Maybe once per week or so? So they stay long enough to reply to a topic, but not so long that an anonymous poster becomes known by their image. Most people who aren't up to mischief don't keep a whole lot of email addresses.

Definitely possible.
The original Help actually had a โ€œdefaultโ€ one that it fell back to. It was a purple one. A bunch of people thought it was just a troll though, until they suddenly had that purple one as well. ๐Ÿ˜…

I did notice the the original ones changed occasionally, but I donโ€™t think it was on a regular basis.

Another option is having them set per-post. So your icon would always be the same on this post, but on another post theyโ€™d be different.
A couple of issues with that:

1) You CANโ€™T tell itโ€™s the same poster- meaning itโ€™s harder to connect their stories. If you helped them on one post, you may want to extend your help to another. But thatโ€™s impossible if it changes all the time.
2) Some people get attached to their icons and like them. Then itโ€™s sad when they change. ๐Ÿ™

Maybe we should do a vote from the people. ๐Ÿ˜„

@Pianoman91894 Stopped by for a short time. Maybe we can get him back for a big reunion. ๐Ÿ˜‰

I invited Cait (friends in real life) but she isnโ€™t quite ready to come back yet, I donโ€™t think.

Happy to hear youโ€™re doing so well! ๐Ÿ˜„

The other day when I was reading the loooooong post I noticed that Cait quit posting when pasta iguhasta went on her mission. It was the beginning of the end for her.

I didnโ€™t know they were that close! Iโ€™ll tell her Hasta is back. Maybe sheโ€™ll make an appearance. ๐Ÿ˜„

Thatโ€™s true! But Iโ€™d rather have heavy weather than off and on nothings that are just inconvenient and donโ€™t come with the pleasure the crazy stuff gets. ๐Ÿ˜›

Yep! Born and raised here. Havenโ€™t seen a good snow in quite a few years though!
When I was a kid we measured snow in feet rather than inches. ๐Ÿ˜„

Hi. Mod here. ๐Ÿ˜„

Yes, mods are able to see who the poster is- both the โ€œtrueโ€ account, as well as IP address. However, itโ€™s still anonymous. A mod has to open a page to reveal the true user.
Once your account is created, a special identifying string is stored which is used to generate the same icon each time, so as long as youโ€™re logged in to the same account, youโ€™ll have the same icon regardless of device.
Multiple accounts from your same IP may look the same, but may change, depending on certain circumstances.

Additionally, every post/reply stores the IP used- this is mostly to determine if an account has been hacked.

oh lord, this site layout brings back some memories!

I assumed it was from that time where everybody was copying his avatar. ๐Ÿ˜„

Was there a separate developer who actually handled the export of data from OH to HTG?
No offense to Ryan, but I didnโ€™t think heโ€™d be able to...

Yeah, I meant putting that specific post's markdown elsewhere, not as a general solution (to a nonexistent problem; PoL is mount everest in the middle of flatland after all). Thence, one can for instance copy to and read from a tab delimited spreadsheet software, wherein 6k rows is trifle quantity

Ah. Another option is to allow an โ€œexportโ€ of the replies by appending .csv or something to the url. Still slow the first time, but would allow you/any user to pull the replies down into a more easily searchable/reusable format.
Then it WOULD be a generic solution thatโ€™s not too difficult. We could export that one specifically to a hosting service like pastebin or whichever regardless.

Leave it to load overnight? Oh, I see you've already jumped down that bottomless pit of fun. It's kinda slow to scroll through. Perhaps the markdown + username in plaintext could be put on pastebin or somewhere?

That would make the page load even slower. ๐Ÿ˜ž
Unless you mean to view it on Pastebim rather than the Archive page?

The date isn't from when helpcom died; it's several months later, when the htg admin got around to uploading the data. Suppose he used the regular posting function only with the reply & placeholder usernames. There are fractional seconds of difference in the timestamp, totalling in a few hours, I think.

That would make more sense. ๐Ÿ˜„
I didnโ€™t look too far into it. Just pulled the timestamps that weโ€™re given and used them. ๐Ÿ˜‰

Do we know who the developer was that did all of that? I donโ€™t think it was Ryan- he didnโ€™t seem to have a lot of technical server knowledge.

If you want to befriend someone of the opposite gender and don't want to seem "interested", how?

Gender only matters because it actually plays a significant role in our behavior.

And I think most of the advice given was actually not gender based?
