Anyone remember the longest post ever?
This is so nostalgic. I joined Help .com when I was only 15! (I'm about to turn 27)
There was a post where it was decided that the last person to post was the winner. Needless to say, that made us post on and on - for years!
I made some really good friends there - Ralph, Caitherra, NoFace...I've often regretted that I lost my only way of contacting them, since then. They heard QUITE a lot about my boy drama and I'm sure they'd be happy to know that I'm very happily married now haha

Well I'll be, if it isn't mrs pianoman.
You won that one: """hahaha Noface that's one way to tell us! She sounds great and I'm so happy you found someone who is so much who you wanted! I remember the whole "finding someonw who's right for you" thing was hard for you before so I'm glad you're happy :) """
But you probably knew that already and just wanted to brag. :P

haha Yes it's me!! omg I actually had no idea! How do you even have that information??
Wow, this is blowing my mind. How you been?? I was just telling my husband about Help .com like a month ago and now here we are again!
You mean actual husband? That pretty much trumps any change on this side of the interwebz. Weren't you on a mission?
Help me with:
Test.
Yep, actual husband, been married for a year now! Yes, I actually met him on the mission, then we were friends for 3 years and finally dated and got married January 2017
Hum, congratulations then.
@DocteurRalph is around every so often, haven't seen cait or noface in a while. Unfortunately cbs took all the mail addresses with them.

Ralph! I know there are more I'm forgetting who were pretty active there, too, but that's just it - I'm forgetting their usernames. Hopefully they'll all find their ways back at some point!
Soco's post is somewhat concentrated, you can drop off more names too: https://help-qa.com/posts/41-okay-who-is-still-...
By the way, when you at sign someone's username it invites them to the post, instead of the old tickboxes.

Good to know! I'll take a look
@Pianoman91894 Stopped by for a short time. Maybe we can get him back for a big reunion. 😉
I invited Cait (friends in real life) but she isn’t quite ready to come back yet, I don’t think.
Happy to hear you’re doing so well! 😄
Welcome back ☺️
For the record- "The Post of Legends" was a competition to see who the very last poster would be.
The beginning of the post was basically discussing "when" the competition ended, if it was the last reply. No consensus was ever reached.
However, I don't think I'll have much resistance when I say the closing of the original Help is a good "end" to the post, so I'd like to announce the winner. 😄
The Post of Legends had a grand total of 6,166 replies. The winner is none other than the author of this post: @HastaIguanaPianoman

Congratulations. 🎉
Haha hooray! And thanks for welcoming me back, guys!
Wait, are you married to Pianoman? Weren't you just hasta iguana before? It was a play on words like hasta manana or something, and I'm pretty sure I won that long long long post competition... where are you getting your information from Rockster? Wow welcome back Pasta.. yeah you you were pasta manana and iguana and changed your name more than a few times I think.
Help me with: I need help.
So were you from out there in Utah or Arizona? Mormon? Man my memory is getting a giant jolt tonight, it has been years. That crazy 6,000 reply Post of Legends was a part of my life for a long time too, ha ha.
Help me with: I need help.
haha well at one point Pianoman and I had a Help. com wedding, so I changed it from Hasta Iguana to Mrs. Pianoman - I just added all of the elements back in so people would recognize me. Even found one of my old profile pictures!
I'm not married to Pianoman in real life though lol I did live in AZ, I am Mormon and met my husband on my mission to Nevada. A job got me to Utah and I got my husband to Utah from out in Virginia.
You're in Tennessee, right? I've got a friend from Knoxville and went out there to visit a few years back. So many trees out there!
Hasta iguana was a play on "hasta la pasta" which is a play on "hasta manana." It was something I came up as a freshman in high school and now here I am about to have my 10 year reunion!
Yeah it's crazy how long it's been. I think Help stopped being Help 5 or 6 years ago and now suddenly it's back but everyone has changed... well except me of course. Okay I just wanted to make sure you weren't really married to Pianoman, I remember the online wedding now.
Your mission was to Nevada? That's kind of like hanging out in your back yard isn't it? lol. I thought just guys did the two year mission thing, I didn't realize girls did that too. Well congratulations on your marriage and good luck in Utah. Yeah we have all the trees here in Tennessee, trees and hills for miles.
Help me with: I need help.
@DocteurRalph - It’s part of the Help Archives. The link to the post is here:
https://archive.help-qa.com/posts/302329-the-po...
Warning: The page is HUGE and will take a few minutes to load on your computer should you attempt to open it.
There is a possibility that the order of the replies got messed up in the conversion back and forth, but I think it should be accurate.
And hey! Welcome to Utah, @HastaIguanaPianoman 😄
Sorry the snow has been kind of disappointing lately. 😞 Has made for a good season on the bike though. Haven’t used my car in 3 years. 😅
I'm not going there. First of all my computer isn't as good as it used to be, like a lot of thing in my life now, and I'm afraid it would just lock up for 10 or 15 minutes. I've heard bad stories from other people about what that post did to their computers...
Plus if I did go there I'd likely be up until 5 AM just trying to read through what was going on there. It's probably a lot like a diary of my life for a few years.
Yeah Caitherra, and Hasta, and Pianoman, and wait was noface Y E T I?? He was, wasn't he??? I think everyone else was afraid to download the monster. Plus we changed the name every couple of months and had races to 1,000 replies, then 2,000 replies etc. etc. etc... boy do I ever remember.
Help me with: I need help.
I think I was on the post for a bit too. 😄
I definitely wasn’t a major contributor or anything. It’s pretty cool though!
I’ve got it on my todo list to optimize huge posts so that they’re more computer friendly. It’ll happen eventually. 😅
I’m pretty sure Yeti is not NoFace... But I might be wrong. Admin tools don’t work on the Archives because the only information that was stored was the stuff that’s visible, so no account info or anything like that. 😄
I could be wrong. I'm still trying to decipher what YETI said up there. And yeah I didn't mean we were the only ones that replied on that post, just that we were there an awful lot. Like every day for years... my fingers are itching now. I'm crawling in the rabbit hole, send for help if I don't make it back.
Help me with: I need help.
Good luck. 😄
I’ve done what I can to move most of the work server-side, but your computer still has to download and display the file, which can be tough. 😅
Not a problem. Loaded in less than 4 minutes, but I noticed that I was complaining on that post about it taking my computer 1 minute and 53 seconds to load so things are slowing down. Now I get Yeti's reply too, he wrote the last thing that was said on that post... we were racing to 6,789 replies at that point. And what is the May 13, 2014 date everywhere? Is that when the original Help died? :(
Help me with: I need help.
I believe that was the closing date of Help, yep. 🙁 HTG didn’t store any of the original times for some reason, which is a big loss.
Luckily they kept the incrementing ids, which gives us a way to at least retain the order of posts/replies.
The increase in time may also be the different server. CBS had a big powerful server. Compared to this one there is a BIG difference.
Only 600 replies away! Which seems like a ton, but I guess relatively it wasn’t much.
I was only yeti (and any number of other names, but only one account).
Leave it to load overnight? Oh, I see you've already jumped down that bottomless pit of fun. It's kinda slow to scroll through. Perhaps the markdown + username in plaintext could be put on pastebin or somewhere?
There's this premonitory reply around the middle of the post:
"""Eh? Thought we were a-goin' fer 6,666, and then the site crashing is the limit."""
Though actually only reached 6166.
The date isn't from when helpcom died; it's several months later, when the htg admin got around to uploading the data. Suppose he used the regular posting function only with the reply & placeholder usernames. There are fractional seconds of difference in the timestamp, totalling in a few hours, I think.

That would make the page load even slower. 😞
Unless you mean to view it on Pastebim rather than the Archive page?

That would make more sense. 😄
I didn’t look too far into it. Just pulled the timestamps that we’re given and used them. 😉
Do we know who the developer was that did all of that? I don’t think it was Ryan- he didn’t seem to have a lot of technical server knowledge.
Yeah, I meant putting that specific post's markdown elsewhere, not as a general solution (to a nonexistent problem; PoL is mount everest in the middle of flatland after all). Thence, one can for instance copy to and read from a tab delimited spreadsheet software, wherein 6k rows is trifle quantity.
At least ryan announced it, see: https://archive.help-qa.com/posts/598192-the-ol...
I think there was another admin in the beginning but don't really remember who. Perhaps @Padre_J_Roulston was better acquainted with the team.

Ah. Another option is to allow an “export” of the replies by appending .csv
or something to the url. Still slow the first time, but would allow you/any user to pull the replies down into a more easily searchable/reusable format.
Then it WOULD be a generic solution that’s not too difficult. We could export that one specifically to a hosting service like pastebin or whichever regardless.

There were a couple of other admins of helptogo, but they all worked under Ryan... and for the most part didn't do much for the site.
Was there a separate developer who actually handled the export of data from OH to HTG?
No offense to Ryan, but I didn’t think he’d be able to...
Looking back on that post I was reminded of how often I used to get banned. Kind of funny really... people would always ask how they could kill themselves because they wanted to commit suicide but were only a kid and didn't have a gun and I would tell them to starve themselves. That didn't go over well.
But I mean come on you have to go about two weeks without eating and you get weak and there's immense pain, nobody's going through with that. I always figured it was a good way to get them to cool out and maybe even lose some weight. Hell if someone made it three days without eating I'd be very surprised.
One time I was telling someone about swallowing some Drano and I got like two weeks in the slammer.. hah. Somehow I had managed to repress all the memories of how often I got hit by the ban hammer. lol
Help me with: I need help.
Oh dear, Ralph! I work in the Trust and safety department of my company, so I'd be the one to kick you off of that website! Of course, the people I work with meet in person so it's different. Your logic about starvation makes sense but I'm not surprised it led to time outs haha
I never imagined I'd use this website on a phone one day!
Rockster, you're in Utah too?? I've lived here for 3 years now so I've seen some snow haha The trees are blooming now so I'm a happy camper!
Oh gosh, Ralph, I don't even want to know what I talked about in that old post. My entire life was boy drama until I found the right guy haha ugh
Yep! Born and raised here. Haven’t seen a good snow in quite a few years though!
When I was a kid we measured snow in feet rather than inches. 😄
I'm okay with snow not taking over my whole life haha I lived in Colorado Springs until I was a preteen so at least I saw some good snows there!
It's fun when you're a kid and I still love it like a kid now that I have it back, but I bet it'd be harder to love if I had to shovel and drive in that much snow!
That’s true! But I’d rather have heavy weather than off and on nothings that are just inconvenient and don’t come with the pleasure the crazy stuff gets. 😛

I didn’t know they were that close! I’ll tell her Hasta is back. Maybe she’ll make an appearance. 😄
I guess I should've assumed you were in Utah if you know Cait! Haha
I think she and I worked well together because we were similar ages and had similar concerns. Hope all is well, I know she had some real struggles back then
Other than the troll issue, which was addressed, I don't really care and prob won't vote.
I have only posted/replied anon a handful of times on the OH way back when. Once was to tell a suicide poster to get over it, basically. I know it was very mean and horrible of me, but DAFT PUCK discovered "me" and gave me a warning :)Additionally, I don't spend any time trying to decipher the anons. I don't have time for that and don't care too much about who it is that decides that they need to post anon for whatever reason. I will say that sometimes I give anon posts less consideration, though. Not in a mean way (except the one time mentioned already), but in a way that I breeze past them and move on to posts that aren't anon; or I reply briefly without giving a whole lot of thought to my replies....
@PepperJ - I think you meant to be posting that on this post?
https://help-qa.com/posts/515-help-qa-feature-p...
@HastaIguanaPianoman - I can't speak for her. I think she's living alone right now, but we honestly don't speak as much as we once did. I think she's doing alright for the most part, but I would have thought she would come back to see everybody by now. 😅

OH MY GOSH, you guys. I found a post I made about my husband on the old site! haha I didn't even know I did that.
It says "I met him while I was on my mission. He was also a missionary and very obviously developed feelings for me. I like him as a friend, but I don't think I'm actually interested in him, but I continue to flirt and I think it's just because I really like the attention. I miss talking to him when we haven't talked for a couple of days, though, so it really is confusing to me because I'm interested enough that I don't feel guilty flirting with him, but I don't think I can picture us together. Plus he lives on the other side of the US from me."
lol and then 3 years later we started dating
That's really cool. Looking back at how you felt about your husband when you first met him. Better not let him see it Pasta!

Oh he knows! But he likes it because it makes him feel victorious thay he won me over lol
