Xanax & Alcohol

Now obviously it’s a stupid thing to do. In the year that I’ve been prescribed Xanax, I have never mixed the two.

Thursday I took some Xanax bc I was stressed, totally forgot I did, and got wasted with everyone else. Friday was the hangover from hell - literally didn’t get out of bed. Today I’m still feeling quite lethargic, still have a headache, and am feeling even suicidal - something I haven’t felt in a long time.

How long until this wears off? I’ve been googling for the past hour, I can’t find anything 😔

Honestly any drug (prescription or otherwise) and alcohol are a poor choice.

However as in how long it'll take to wear off. I know from experience that a hangover from mixing narcotics with rum can take as long as 4 days.

If you're worried I'd advice consulting a General physician. And should the thoughts of suicide advance into planning (should detailed thinking emerge) get in touch with a therapist immediately.

General advice, take it easy for a few days and drink water at regular intervals. It should help in filtering out the bad stuff.

Agreed with Legion on the last part. Keep a bottle of water in your hand and sip at it every chance you get all day. The faster you drink- the faster you'll filter the toxins from your body.

I'd recommend trying to drink a bottle every hour.

I don't know if it will work but have you tried drinking milk?
Drinking milk is supposed to draw out any toxins when it comes to pills/ tablets and It will also put a lining on our stomach which should also help.

Got it - I’m going to start drinking more water and will incorporate milk into it too. I’m just relieved to see that the effects should only be for a few days - right now it’s hard to just not feel like I’ll be depressed forever.

Thanks me too. I’m going to take it one step at a time. Took a shower. Drank some water. Probably should eat something now.

Food sounds a good idea and being well hydrated is always a bonus.😊

Also, re-hydration should actually reduce the hangover symptoms. Over half are actually caused by the dehydration and not the alcohol itself. =)

They also suggest drinking milk before you drink any alcohol to line the stomach.
It's worked quite a few times for me,it's kept me sober as well.

Good stuff then. Keep an eye on your mood the next few days, should things stabilise I'd honestly just consider it a minor life lesson and move on.

Best of luck to you.

I usually feel pretty good the day after taking xanax. Most people complain that they are tired and lethargic but to me it seems like I wake up and still have a buzz. It's not a good idea to overindulge if you have to work the next day.

You shouldn't still be feeling bad.. how much did you drink? Maybe it's just the alcohol, I've had alcohol poisoning before and I threw up for a day and dry heaved for a day and was sick for almost a week. Stupid St. Patrick's Day right after my 21st birthday when I was just learning to drink. Almost killed myself

Help me with:

I need help.

Well, I had Xanax an hour before I started drinking. Lots and lots of shots. Quite a few gin & tonics. I don’t remember huge portions of the evening. I think it’s safe to say that I over indulged.

It could be the combination, it could be alcohol poisoning, I’m not sure. I still have a slight headache but am feeling much better. I didn’t have work on Friday, I would never drink more than 1-2 drinks if I did.

Don't know how long the effects should last or what they should be; never been there. But I hope you feel better soon

I purposely use prescription morphine and get drunk all the time.

One or the other on its own dont have a good enough effect anymore.

usually wears off by the next day so i do it again.

See this is a first for me. I never mix medication and alcohol - ever, ever. So I have no tolerance for it.

But I feel much better now physically.

If it's not something you like, just be careful to not do it again.

I do it because I get regular drug tests at work so that's the best I can get away with doing
