Choosing a GoPro like camera

So should i pay out for a gopro or are the other brands just as good at half the price? Can anyone recommend on. I just want it for dog training vids, no heavy action stuff.

Nowadays your phone has one of the best video cameras already in it. For your needs anyway. Better to spend your money on video editing software so you can add lettering and other stuff. Also invest in a tripod to hold the phone steady.

Even though it’s not heavy action, it involves a lot of movement. My brother in law works for REI - I think places like that have people who can best advise you on what kind of equipment you should get. I googled it and it seemed like most people who train dogs like the GoPro, but their chief complaints are the lack of sound and the cost of various attachments.

I would definitely check out REI. Since you’re going to have a lot of movement in your photos, you’re going to want something that can capture movement better than a phone can.

I agree with Araz! GoPro will work for your needs but it might be costly. It's like you can either play it safe and spend extra bucks or work to hopefully find something similar for less.

Simple fix. Upload files to a cloud. Most phone companies already offer this in their plan but few use it. Once it's up you can bring it back down to your desktop or laptop computer.

GoPro has a refurbished store if you are interested.

I have a Hero4 Silver and really like it. It may be overkill for your needs since part of what you are paying for is the waterproof capability. The sound quality is apparently not as good on the Hero5 because they decided to make it waterproof by default. On the Hero4 you can switch to a case that isn't waterproof which gives better sound quality.

The biggest issue is the footage can be very shaky if you hold by hand. Here are some tips to get steady footage with a pole (filming dogs!):

You might want to look into a waterproof compact camera like the one I use, a Fuji XP80 or something like it. It's only waterproof to 50', but that's plenty if you don't scuba dive. Try used/surplus units on Ebay.
