Soo I don't know why I was given an inhaler?

I was recently in a psychiatric hospital and when i was leaving they opened up a drawer and gave me the ointments they've been using for my stitches as well as an inhaler containing Albuterol Sulfate.
They never told me what it's for.
I'm not sure if it's because when I ODed maybe they were concerned I'd have trouble breathing as a side effect or something?
I asked my mom about it and she said maybe it's because her and George (stepdad) are smokers but they smoke outside.

Any ideas??

Seems odd. I know some people use them if they are hyperventilating- have you ever had issues like that?

It's a bronchodilator, designed to open your breathing passages. It is often used to help asthma sufferers.

But they should have explained to you what it was for and when to use it.

panic attacks many times cause shortness of breath. they probably gave it to you in case you find yourself in a situation where you feel you can't breathe properly. but they should have told you why they gave it to you and how and when to use it. if they didn't, you should have asked.
Ash, it's important to ask everything regarding your treatment, it'll help you understand more about your situation. don't wait for them to do all the work, you can ask them anything, no matter how odd, and it's their job to help you.
many people with borderline sometimes have psychotic symptoms/events which can cause distress and shortness of breath. it is important to know what to do in such situations, so you don't panic.

Albuterol (also known as salbutamol) is used to treat wheezing and shortness of breath caused by breathing problems such as asthma. It is a quick-relief medication. Albuterol belongs to a class of drugs known as bronchodilators. It works in the airways by opening breathing passages and relaxing muscles. Controlling symptoms of breathing problems can decrease time lost from work or school.
