Which is better way to get physically fit(easier and quicker)?

Try to turn fat into lean muscle or get skinny first then build it?

Fat does not turn into muscle, nor ever it will.

Losing weight and building muscle are two separate issues.

If you want to lose weight, change your diet. Drink lots of water, and eat a large fruit/vegetable diet. You'll need to include some lean meat and a VERY SMALL portion of carbs (go with brown rice).
Then, get some excircise. I'd avoid running and jogging. Walk, do some physical labor, raise your heart rate for at least 15 minutes.

To build muscle, work out. This is NOT the same as excircising to lose weight and you SHOILD NOT use working out as a substitute for general weight-loss excircise.
When it comes to working out, you begin to target muscle groups and work them. By doing so, you build muscle and get stronger.

The big key to staying fit is activity and the menu of your diet.

Also, stay away from the drugs, alcohol and cigarettes.

Further, prepare for life changes. By the time you hit 40 years of age, your body will not always respect your efforts. And it happens really quick.

All my best.
Good luck

I lost 40 lbs on the keto diet without exercising but then I stopped and plateaued. I’m going back to a moderate form - complex carbs only and adding exercise to it.

You should try it, it really does work!

Short Answer: probably a hybrid approach, but it depends where you are at now

Long Answer:

Step 1 - Use TDEE calculator to figure out how many calories you burn each day: https://tdeecalculator.net

Step 2 - If you want to lose weight (aka cutting phase), aim for 500 fewer calories per day . If you want to gain weight (aka bulking phase), aim for 500 more calories per day.

Step 3 - download MyFitnessPal app to track your calories

During bulking phase, lift weights. Use a 5x5 or push/pull/legs program that incorporates compound movements like squats, dead lifts, bench press, overhead press, pull ups, rows and core. Focus on 5 to 12 rep range and 2 minutes recover between sets.

During cutting phase, incorporate more cardio. Focus on less weight, higher reps, less recovery time. Here you can add more isolation work if you want to tone specific muscles.

Fat from food is stored in the body in a compound called triglyceride. This is formed of a combination of atoms of hydrogen, carbon and oxygen. This does not, and cannot be, converted to muscle.

When you ‘burn’ fat, you are breaking the chemical bonds between the atoms, which releases a small amount of energy. The atoms remain, rearranged from their form as triglyceride, as water and carbon dioxide, in approximately 1:4 ratio. The water is excreted as sweat or urine or other bodily fluids. The carbon dioxide is excreted via the lungs; you breathe out the majority of stuff forming the fat in your body.

The average person expels around 200g of carbon (as carbon dioxide) through breathing, every day. Around a third of that is during sleep. Replacing an hour of rest with moderate activity can result in an additional 40g of carbon being expelled.

To lose weight, eat less and move more.

I think this video will answer your question about what to focus on first (losing weight vs building muscle).
