How do you stop a panic attack.

I never had panic attacks befor until I was in a relationship from hell. Now I get them when I get upset with something somebody said. They just take off like a runaway train. They run their coarse for about 6 hours or more and leave me frazzled and wiped out. Does anyone know how to minimize their impact I dont want to drink to stop it.

To stop or prevent a panic attack you need to understand and recognize the triggers. Then work with dealing with the triggers or avoid them.

Is the trigger what was said or who was saying it? If it is the person just ask them to stop talking to you. Easy fix. If it is what was said that is harder to deal with.
I am guessing that perhaps you are female, yes? If you are like myself we have a inate ability to turn one sentence or even a phrase in that sentence and connect to thousands of other things; totally unrelated to what the person actually meant for you to understand. And each of these thousands of things are like a hundred daggers pointed right at your head from a very short distance. They never move, but the fear it instills in our mind is real.
Learning how not to twist and turn what somebody says to you is harder to discern and relate to. You can find books or published medical journals that can help you zoom in on this issue. I would however recommend a different route. Find a place to relax and unwind and watch the following video.

The panic comes from being afraid of being afraid. So you need to get to know yourself better to learn coping with anxiety. There is nothing you can do to stop it when it happens, just have to ride them out.
Trying to avoid the discomfort will make them stronger.

Reducing stress overall in your life is important as well as managing your emotions and learning about your boundaries.

There is no trick, pill, technique or other that will do anything about it. You can mask the symptoms, but it will only delay your healing overall.

First, drinking and doing drugs will solve nothing. As a fact, it will make a bad thing worse.

I never had panic attacks befor until I was in a relationship from hell. Now I get them when I get upset with something somebody said.

The problems you've had from this relationship are likely not resolved and/or you have not yet experienced a satisfactory closure. As a result, you'll begin to project these problems onto other people and situations because of paranoia.

I just very recently lost someone that I cared for very very much.
It has been just about too much to deal with.
But I had to try to remember something that my late sister taught me.
Whenever a panic attack or "night terror" starts to rear its ugly head, I have learned that it helps soooo much to try to focus on something.
I have to get up and move around the room...and look at things...and say out loud what that thing is..."I see one television...I see one pretty sweater hanging in the closet...I see two guitars against the wall..."
And continue saying it all aloud....
Doing this takes the swirling mind OFF of the trigger that got it started.
It also helps to have a "best buddy" who you can call and talk to...just to talk you down from the attack.
I have a pet bunny who is a great focal point.
I turn alllll attention on her and off of the attack.
A while back, I discovered also that if you are very lucky...having someone to hug you and tell you that everything will be ok...THAT is what used to work 100% for me.
Talk it out, anon..Talk to someone...
I understand this subject all too well
If nothing else...if you just need to type it out until you exhaust your fingers...come to my shoutbox....feel free.
I hope that you can find a way to manage what you are going thru.
And one last thought....even though it doesn't feel like it when it starts, believe that THIS TOO SHALL PASS...
Sending love and light your way.....Cara

Drink a cup of coffee. Then beat the hell out of your pillow--I mean, really go to town on it. Then tell the world you are unconquerable and it better not mess with you!

I have panic attacks. These aren’t long term solutions, but they help in the moment:

1. My mom told me to sit down if I was standing or stand up if I’m sitting. Basically change what I’m doing physically. That’s helped me a little bit.

2. Drinking water helps.

3. I have an app called “Calm”. It’s free and it helps me.

4. Put on a Pilates or yoga video and stretch it out. I really like the ones on YouTube (Yoga with Adrienne)

5. Write it down! Whatever you’re thinking/feeling, put it down somewhere. I used to keep a journal but Now I’ll pull out my phone and jot down my feelings in my notes section when I’m having an anxiety attack.

Now, imagine it's not 2018 A.D., but 50,000 B.C.

You are living with your clan in the Dordogne region of southwestern France, in what will later be known as the Lascaux cave.

It's your turn to go fishing today. You take your ivory hook, your fishing line and your pole, and some worms for bait, and you go down to the creek to try your luck. You've been there about an hour when you get the feeling you're being watched. You slowly turn your head around, and sure enough, there's a sabre-toothed tiger about 20 meters away, staring at you through the foliage. The big cat is crouching, and his hips are swaying. He's getting ready to make his attack run.

Now, THAT, ladies and gentlemen, is the cause for a true panic attack. What we have facing us today--for the most part--pales in comparison to such a scenario.

Today we may be shunned, laid off, fired, castigated, disgraced, abandoned, mocked, molested, mugged or slugged--but most likely nothing is going to eat us afterwards.

Think about that: no matter what happens, you're not going to be eaten.

And, if you're worried about that, just eat things that would make you taste bad.

Hope this helps! ;-)

Here's something to consider and try. It's been proven that running a vacuum tend to calm a baby with colic.
Like Araz says, take a moment and change things up. I created a video called ASMR Dark Portal. It provides a 7 minute treatment to help "purge" your mind. It's more aggressive than a vacuum cleaner - to fight chaos, you need chaos.
So, hook up your headphones and get close to the screen. The white light also has cleansing properties. Turn up the sound and close your eyes for a deep clean cycle.

That was interesting.

I sleep with a sound machine next to my head...I keep it set on white noise...But I like this...I wish that it would go on and on for hours.
Maybe on CD??

Thank you.

Wow, and I thought it was just me. There is something about the harmonics of a deep base constant.
Perhaps I'll cut an 8 hour version and send you a copy.
What is your sound machine called, Cara?

BA...I've had so many and they all just got worn out and quit on me...lol.
Sharper Image has good ones.
But the one now is one from Homedics...AND I have one that I keep with me in the car...yep...sometimes I just pull the car over and park in a nice quiet spot and turn on my little battery powered one....white noise only...NEVER one of those with the tweety birds or train sound.
Before I discovered the sound machines, I had to have a fan running in my room.
Never quite understood why though....??
Guess just because it is so comforting.
Oh and I remember what movie this came from....Phantasm??
LOVE this sound!!
But not so much the little guys that come with it...
😝

My homemedics sound conditioner drowns out my friends t.v. which he watches 13 hours a day with surround sound. The t.v. would drive me to drink if it wasnt for rhe sound conditioner. I only wish it was louder.

I know, Robbie! When I lived in an apartment, I lived under a family with 3 kids...You can only imagine what that is like...
😲
I would turn my sounder on...and UP...and they were no longer an issue.
And I also had to deal with an older woman who stayed up all night with her TV sound turned WAYYYYY up....so I was thankful to have it then, too.

LOL I just turned BA's video on and plugged in my super subwoofer and this place just rocked...lol...Yes...it would be so cool to have it on a disc that could repeat for hours...lol.

Yeah you take your band in there and let it wail...then stop...walk out to where the tv is...and your room mate is sitting there not even paying attention to the band...
I'd love to hear your band kicking it!! I play a mean guitar and would love to jam.
Love to cover "Crazy on You" by Heart..oh yeah!!
Still laughing at the thought of all the noise....
