I was told that

"without evil we could never find out the power of love"
Why do we need to "find out the power of love", why can't it all be love anyway??
I want to know.

Maybe because then we'd take love for granted. Our brains often search for comparison points, hots and colds, goods and evils, chocolate and vanilla... cortisol and serotonin. I took serotonin for granted before I got a big cortisol dump. Now I personally understand the magnitude of stress and anxiety, and take great joy in the fact that my brain is moving toward peace and happiness again.

Yeah, evil is bad. Yeah, everyone should strive to love (or at least, not hurt). But sometimes without balance there is less understanding.

Like, if you ate the same favorite food forever and ever, without a little nutrition or variety, it might lose its magic. It might just taste like food. Your tastebuds would want to wander.

That's a very good question, perhaps unanswerable.

My guess is that the hardship, including evil, is what helps us develop into higher level people.

Some say that hell is not an actual place, but it's the absence of God, the absence of love. Others say that when God comes back, His love will warm up the good ones and burn the others. So, you could say that evil is the opposite of love. If it was all love and no evil, we wouldn't be humans. You need to choose to love instead of hate, if you didn't know what white is, how could you tell what is black? How could you define love without knowing what it's opposite is? Every meaning in this life has two opposites. Cold and hot, white and black. Without the first you can't know the second.

Since we now know what is what, I vote we keep the good and squash the bad, for the sake of future generations.

We all have the light and the darkness within us. We cannot be one without the other.

I think we have the good things, because it's what makes life worth living. The good is something we can strive for, seek out, and be overjoyed when it's found.

I think if it were given to us all the time, a lot of purpose would be lost. We'd need to be able to recognize it when it comes along. After all, there is more than one good emotion. Happiness and love are not always together, nor are they the same thing, but they are both good, positive emotions and serve their own purpose.

Reminds me of one of my favorite Garth Brooks song where the chorum has the words "I could have missed the pain, but I'd have had to miss the dance."

Everything must have a mirrored version. Life vs. Death, Pain vs. Joy. etc.
