Someone stole my debit card information.

And they transferred $40 to PayPal and spent $115 on YEEZYS. I mean wtf. I guess it’s a good thing I check my account a bunch and saw it immediately.

But idk, been feeling really depressed lately and this definitely didn’t help. Also, hubs is gone for two weeks for work, which happens pretty regularly and I can’t seem to remember how to function alone.

Hope you’re all having a better week than I am.

Well, that sucks - any idea how that happened?

From what I hear you can buy card scanning devices on Amazon and they can gather card/chip/Reid info as little as three feet away.
....and transfer money...?

All the same, sorry to hear about this.

Im sorry this happened to you. Can you get the money back? I had someone attempt to buy over £100 of stuff from River Island once and I managed to stop it and get the money back. I called the bank and they stopped it, I had to change my cards and passwords for everything.

People can steal your info from anywhere these days, hacking companies, banks, devices when you shop.

I think it was at the gas station in my house. If you use your debit card at the pump, they give you a lower rate. I normally don't go there.

I've learned my lesson AND am lucky I have a cushion otherwise I would be so screwed.

The $115 charge they said would drop off. The bank said it would be by today but it's still 'pending'. For the paypal charges, they opened a case but I don't know when or if I'm going to get that money back.

I'll check it out when I get home from work! It is hard not to be freaked out but I do remember from when I worked at a bank that it happens often.

Lollllll I will go out of my way to my brother in law's house to ensure that I watch it around children - particularly my 4 year old niece.

This is my "Ca$h Is King" lecture....

Cash is king.

When you spend cash, you are impervious to the contagions of plastic including the interest which drains 1/3 of your earnings over the course of your life.

This is chain-breaking wisdom, but very few live according to the rule. There is only one rule, Cash Is King. All others are slaves, enslaved to the never-ending bylaws of business.

So, make it easy on yourself. Keep things on a cash only basis - always remain debt free.

If you don't have cash, you can't afford it. Therefore, wait, plan and work until you have cash.

Hope this helps.

I know you're right but cash is so inconvenient. I would have to go withdraw money and I work during banking hours. Using only cash would definitely cut down on expenditures...

I'll try it, couldn't hurt to. Especially since I won't be getting a new card for 5-7 business days anyways...

Not true. It depends on the amount that you physically possess.

I usually keep on hand about $5k at my house and I travel with about a grand when I go out.
There is no inconvienence when it comes to cash (and if it is, consider ALL the inconveniences of plastic).

Just saying.

Lecture over - hahaha!

I would think you would need about 600 building permits and environmental/traffic studies.

Don’t they have a gas station at the end of every block in Texas? 😋

I had this happen to me once ... hot the money back in 5 days... but it was a more straightforward case.

The banks are good at looking into these cases, but some involving PayPal can take time.

I've had my debit card info stolen a couple times. Both times, bank cleared it up immediately with no issues

Once, I was super duper dumb and let one of those people who live outside the USA onto my computer because I kept getting notifications of a "virus" and that I needed to call a phone number (scam)

I let him on my computer, paid him $300 via Paypal. I realized what I did....called Paypal and talked to a woman there and told her I was just dumb, but that I did allow him to "provide a service...." Paypal reversed the charge. The guy called me back and told me to "rot in hell."

These scammers are evil thieves. I’m glad the money was returned to you!

I just got the remaining $42 back and a new debit card but I’m gonna try to lean more on cash. We will see how it goes! I swear, I’ve spent so much less $ since I went to cash only over the past two weeks.
