Lacking motivation!

How do I find some?

I've just been flipping between 4-5 websites all morning. I have a list of things to do in my mind, but haven't written them yet. My house is all a mess, there are boxes to be flattened for recycling filling up my whole back porch, I still need to find a reference book that I was looking for yesterday, and I've got a mountain of laundry to fold. Blah! I'd rather just sit back and watch a movie or something passive, but then I'd feel bad about it and feeling bad would make me want to do it less. Help!

There's much to be said about the stability of a schedule! Or the prompt/nudge/challenge from a stranger from the internet. Start with the list, maybe? Those are nice. Numbering or listing things feels good to me. Feels even better to cross it off.

What's easiest or fastest to do? You could fold half the laundry mountain, or a particular section of it. Then flatten maybe five boxes. Do those two things and reward yourself with a movie as a break.

(But I'm all talk because I still need to clean out my desk drawers)

First write the list don't worry about the doing. This 'intention setting' actually preps the mind at a deep level. Then relax- do the passive thing you want to do. In most cases you'll find your mind wanting to tend to the list. It just won't rest.

Tip: When you write the List, list the chores from easy to hardest. Getting the easy done first will help get the momentum going to completion of all tasks.

I have a list called "motivate". It was supposed to be filled with inspiring statements found during random traversal of the edges of the internet; unfortunately, it looks kinda sad at this point.

Perhaps you could attempt some intellectual pursuit briefly, which wouldn't be so passive, then return to the chores. Or meditate. Or shut down the computer and just start the nearest task.

Break things down into small sections so that they dont look so overwhelming.

Instead of the list saying 'tidy house', instead write vacuum, clean bathroom, do laundry, etc. Little steps

Well, I got some laundry done yesterday, then I took my kids outside to play. Play is important, so I can call it something accomplished.

The laundry was pretty much done, then my husband brought out about a week's worth that he had inexplicably stashed away in the back of his closet. He's just as bad as the kids. It's a never ending cycle.

Today I have my list in front of me and I'm working on it. I think all I needed was a good night's sleep.

Well done.

When we were cleaning the apartment after a tenant's departure, we found a whole drawer full of underwear in the back. How he had managed to go without them is a mystery for the ages, like the current whereabouts of half the socks left in the care of a washing machine.

Music!!!
I find chores go along much faster when playing some upbeat music.

Whatever tune suits you, then crank it up! :D

You remind me a lot of my wife. You aren't my wife are you? Just checking.. and it was more like a couple of days laundry that was stashed in the closet, I change a lot.

We are no different than our pets, really. Want your cat or dog to do something? You must offer a reward. Want yourself to do something? You must also offer a reward!

Promise yourself something you want and give it to yourself upon completion of the task!

Yeah it sounds like a plan formulating here. Start small and then reward yourself... One load of laundry = a Hershey Kiss. Or maybe a nap if you have toddlers. I remember when we had 5 kids in 6 years it was always nap time. The kids didn't need a nap as much as mommy and daddy did.

My motto is 'Never wait to procrastinate'. Sux that I often don't live up to that ideal, but trying nonetheless.
