Why does the app for my robot vacuum cleaner need access to my photos and contacts?

It doesn't take pictures or make or receive calls, it just bumbles around sucking up dust, crumbs, and pet hair. I can use the app to tell it to go left, right, back to charging station.

It shouldnโ€™t... it should also still function without you allowing it access.

Your toaster is trying to hack your vacuum at the request of your smart tv.

Simple. You have dirty pictures on your phone. So dirty in fact it wants to notify everyone including your dentist what a sick mind you have.

But it's okay. I know a lawyer that can pay off those strongly offended and then deny completely knowing anything about you cause he was in Prague at the time....

Guys, I don't have dirty pictures. I've got pics of my kids and flowers and cats and stuff. I'm really boring and my photos reflect that.

Though I did take a picture of the trash can when it blew away.

Still doin stuff for starbyface

Your vacuum is inhabited by the soul of some social media/phone whiz, who wants to tweet pics and selfies of its cleaning after a job well done.

Or it's seen your pics and thinks it can do better?

Which explains how it ended up on the side of the milk carton last month.

I don't trust any electronic equipment anymore. You THINK it doesn't have a camera, but really Big Brother is wandering around your house recording audio and video of everything you do.

Since you got all the funny answers, I'll be serious for a change.
This has been bothering me with most of my apps. I don't have anything to hide, I only have photos of my family. I just can't understand why does the flashlight app need my location! I've seen a few videos that say you can deny access, but I can't download anything if I don't allow access. I've recently read somewhere that everything you type in your messages, posts, emails, even if you don't send them, the information is being kept. I also don't like the way google works but you can't download anything without a google account. I don't know, maybe I'm being paranoid here, but as you said, why does the app for your vacuum cleaner need your contacts?

Now I want to get one of those vacuums and just delete everything on my phone but my *****kinky stuff. Hell, might as well spread the cheer to some poor guy who's job it is to stalk random people's phones all day.
