Hi everybody! I'm Rocco- and I'm the developer who built Help-QA. I'd love to hear how you're liking the place, so feel free to drop me a shout any time!
All of the code for this site is hosted open-source with ❤ on Github:
Want to help maintain the site? We have a Donate page!
Have a feature request? I want to hear about it! Send me a shout!
If you'd like to contact me directly for any reason, my email is email@example.com
Where did you grow up?
Where do you live now?
What is the highest level of education you have attained?
High school, some college. Dropped out and taught myself to code. Doing pretty well now. 👍
What subjects did/do you enjoy most at school?
Pretty much everything! I love learning.
What's your favorite sport or sports?
I'm an injured Free Runner. (I do Parkour and FreeRunning) I also enjoy normal running, but I don't have an interest in competitive/team sports.
What kind of jobs have you held? Industries too!
Been a mechanic at a bowling alley and a programmer for most of my working history.
Before that, I was a coach at a gym for parkour and gymnastics.
What hobbies are you into?
I write code, I hang out with my family, and I enjoy life!
I also like to go bowling, golfing, and jump on the trampoline!
What causes are you concerned about today?
Simply the over-dramatics that people are in, and their tendency to over-exaggerate issues they come across.

Michael is the kind of guy you love to hate.written () ago
He is always in a good mood and always has something positive to say.
You’re all very kind. 😊
I’ll see what I can do to get a donate button added soon! I’ve been more pre occupied with more important features and making the site a more pleasant experience (like fixing that silly link preview) but a donate button should be pretty quick and easy. I’ll toss it up tonight after work!
Thank you everyone. 🙏- written - voted for by PepperJ, Evansent, Pixels, ProffVampy
I joined around 06/07, I believe. Hard to remember. Help got me through so many things, and honestly- the biggest help was the community here just being friendly and accepting, more than just answering my posts when I needed help. The friends and memories I made here will stick with me forever. :)
Although I've never met anybody from Help in real life (Except 1, but I knew her in person before she joined so it doesn't count) I still consider them true friends of mine who I owe my life to. Those are the ones that got me motivated to take this project on.
I plan to keep this up as long as possible, but it's a community driven site. The old Help was around for nearly 10 years before many of us found it (Except Ralph. He's been around since forever, apparently)- which just goes to show that it may take some time before there is a constant stream of users that are finding us and posting.
To keep the site alive, the best thing we can all do is stick around as long as we can and help each and every person that comes to our doorstep. If we can maintain that great community, Help will survive.- written - voted for by smiley, Mya, Ambereyes, ProffVampy
Looks like there was a bug in that, @Jetmoo - If you try again now it should display properly. 🙂- written
All posts should be visible if you click the “All Claimed Posts” at the bottom of your posts on your profile page.
That does not show anonymous posts- only “claimed” ones.
All posts replies are searchable, including by username. Unfortunately if you’ve posted anonymously- those will not show up as posted by you.- written
happy birthday now get back here....

Fairly simple to set up. AWS is great for building scaleable solutions, though might not be the cheapest option if you only need something small and/or of set size/traffic.
Storing data is dead easy. You can use S3 to store everything and dump all of your data in- the hard part is getting it back out for use/aggregation- and that depends on how you need to use that data. I wouldn't recommend going serverless, simply because serverless makes it difficult to "serve" the data. You'd have to do all of the data filtering and aggregation on the front end, which means you first have to collect all of the raw data, store it in client-side memory, and then run functions on it there. It works, but it's slow.
I'm a full-stack dev, but always use a server. Serverless doesn't really make sense to me for a number of reasons, especially along the lines of user auth. However, setting up user auth is generally extremely easy as there are frameworks that provide the whole process for you. It's also possible to run your users through a dedicated server and store/serve your data simply through S3 without it touching the server's database at all.
DynamoDB is a no-sql service, which to me, falls under the "serverless" category. You'll generally experience significantly longer load times than you would with a database where you can query exactly what you need. That said- if you don't have backend experience and you're just trying to get something up and running, I think that's a great start.- written
It was yesterday- but thank you. :)- written
